Hi All,
Just stumbled across this forum from google and looks like I could learn a lot from here. :) . I currently live in Fairfax, Virginia and planning to buy a sports motorcycle as my first personal vehicle.
Although with extensive bike riding in foreign countries, I never rode a bike in the US. So, would need some help choosing the dealer, motorcycle drivers license, insurance etc. I do not intend to spend too much on my first bike, so after some research, I have narrowed my choices to the following,

Suzuki 2007 GS500F or
Suzuki 2006 Katana 600. (would post links but gotta get my post count to 10 first :) )

I intend to use my bike as the primary mode of commute, which would include occasional 3-4 hour long highway drives. Thus, would like to have a decently powered bike, but not too powerful for a new rider either. These preferences are reflected in above two bikes. Although, I'm open for suggestions on any manufacturer/model/brand.

During my research, I also came accross the Suzuki GSX-R600 and Honda CBR6004i, which are little on the expensive side for a noob like me. Anyway, after a couple of years, I'd go for a 1000cc versions of those bikes. :D

Edit: - Looking at other people's introduction messages, it seems I wrote a bit to much to introduce myself. Ah well! I guess it would be excused for being a newb ;)

welcome to the forum.

both bikes are really good picks for what you want. I would be more concerned with comfort for regular 3-4 hour drives. Both picks should be reliable mechanically, and they have plenty of power for commuting.
