BikerForums News

Ladies and Gents, it's with great sadness that I announce that I am advertising BikerForums for sale. I've built this site from scratch and have recently had a lot of changes in my life. Tomorrow I'll be posting the specifics and I'll be adding to this thread to explain a little more about my decision. I wanted all of my friends here to know and also know that I still care very much about this site and will ensure it goes to the right person or people. Thanks.

Bikerforums is an established motorcycle enthusiast community well known for its friendly, helpful and open biker atmosphere. Anybody with a motorcycle or an interest in motorcycles is welcome. The site consists of enthusiast forums, a photo gallery of user photos, a photo "garage" where users can showcase their bikes, and a links directory. The site was created in March of 2002 originally only as BikerForums.org. In 2004 the domain names Bikerforums.com and Bikerforums.net were also aquired for roughly $1000 a piece, boosting the overall presence of the community. The site itself is a free forum, run completely with the vBulletin forums software. Slight modifications have been made to the vBulletin software to accommodate a portal system (vbAdvanced), an advertising system (phpLinks), and a "Garage" for users (vbGarage). While this customization does include editing of vBulleting templates, the upkeep is trivial. The site is currently on a shared server, mainly because I have access to one - it could easily be moved to an appropriate hosting package. Recommendations can be made for a hosting company, normally costing around $30/month. Site currently uses approximately 700MB of disk space, 6 SQL databases (MySQL) utilizing 65MB of SQL space, and averages around 3000MB of bandwidth per month. It is currently hosted on a Linux platform, using Cpanel.

Hits (Hits normally di p a bit in the Summer):

February 2006 - 241,378
March 2006 - 228,227
April 2006 - 189,919
May 2006 - 191,166

Most hits come from web site searches. For the past 4 months, Google Adwords has been utilized and has boosted traffic tremendously. BikerForums does make money from an advertising program which can be seen on the web site. For 2006, the site has made nearly $500 via advertising with a minimal amount of effort. The advertising and raffle possibilities are what drive this site.

Reason for selling: No time and some health issues. I have built this site by hand in my spare time and truly do love the place. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to make it what it could be. Furthermore, I have health issues that are increasingly demanding. The site could be very successful in the right hands, marketed correctly or paired with the right sites. This is an established site, with established members, advertisers and content - all it needs is somebody with drive, passion and time to take it off my hands.

I'm not dead yet, still seeing lots of docs but have yet to find a serious buyer for BikerForums. Worse case scenario is that I have to take a brief hiatus and depend on some of you all to keep this place in order.
