Alaska Highway?

Anyone ever ride on the Alaskan Highway? I have the Mile Post (a listing of maps and services for the ride to Alaska) and was wondering what anyone else has to say about ridding to Alaska? I'll be leaving around July 22 this year and on the way back, I might stop in on the Black Hills Rally. I plan on carring 2 gallons of gas extra. I have a wind shield for the bugs and rain gear. I will also bring a one man tent and sleeping bag just in case. Any suggestions would be wellcome.

All I can say RR is that there is no way you can prepare for the Alcan! I went up to Whitehorse in an RV pullin my bike on a trailer. To "The Ride to the Midnight Sun". I had to...everything I owned was in that RV and all I can say is, I'm mighty glad I did! It still was quite the journey. I think that everyone ought to experience the Alcan. It was a great trip, but, it was a trip that I'll never forget!
There are quite a few fuel stops and places to sleep. The road is never "finished" even tho they say it is. I ran into about three places that were at least 50 - 100 miles of NO RODE!! They were workin on it...but there was no rode!
Non the less RR, make sure ya have a credot card that has a couple of grand open on it. Plan on gettin a tire and at least one oil change while "Up" there. I don't know how far ya plan on goin...but plan on those two things at least. Make sure you have rain gear and warm weather gear...and remember...the sun don't set up there! It is wierd...took me by surprise.
All in all...have a good time and post some pics when ya get back.

Thanks Sober

I will keep in mind the required oil changes and possiable tire changes. I had planned on a tire change in Washington before hitting Canada. One thing I've learned, Long trips cover more ground if you keep the speed at a good comfort level for you and the machine.

One other small point...If ya see a sign with ^^^(Three peaks) on it, take care. It means that you are approching a frost heave! That is where the ground is thawing out and there's a rise in the pavement. They are sizeable and will get you air born! So take notice of them!
I'll let ya know if there's anything else I remember that's note worthy '-)
