Indian Larry - RIP
 

Sorry to see a talented man pass.

He was a craftsman of a different kind. Hope his family and those closest to him the best in dealing with their loss.

I heard earlier today that he had crashed and was brain dead, but didnt know how much was true, till i read this and other articles.

He was one of a kind! To me, he kept his self more so called "human" after his fame on discovery channel, I dont think he ever let any of that shit go to his head.
He was a wonderful builder thats for sure and be greatly missed.

I wouldn't walk across the street to see the "OCC" bunch...they are nothing but bike "assemblers", and attention whores......but Indian Larry built bikes from the ground up...fabricating every bit of it....frame, bars, tins, wiring, paint, motor, all of it....and when he was done it was no doubt an "old school" custom. Maybe not all the chrome, and doo-dads of most of the present day popular customs...but it was functional, and rideable....and dependable, all a man could need in a bike.

Rest in peace brother Larry....you will not be forgotten

My two favs, are Indian Larry and Billy Lane. Even Billy Lane let the shit go to his head. I dont know if anyone saw the biker buildoff between Lane and Indian Larry, but Billys shit broke down the whole way and Indian Larry actually had to fix it, when it came down to the end, Indian Larry won but he didnt accept the trophy he and billy took it apart and gave it to the crowd.
Jody, youre right...he built the BEST bikes, everything he did, HE DID!!! painting and all! He will be greatly missed.

unreal, I can't believe what I am reading. He's done that stunt who knows how many times. A true craftsman, spoked his own wheels, did his own work.

Ride On, Indian Larry
 

It was very sad to hear we lost an icon in the motorcycling world on Monday. Indian Larry died from head injuries he suffered after falling from his bike while performing one of his trademark stunts (standing on the seat @ 60 mph) The accident happened in front of a crowd of 8000, at the Liquid Steel Classic and Custom Bike Series in North Carolina.
I had the good fortune of seeing Larry at the bike show this past Jan. in NYC, and admired him as a talented builder of old school choppers.
The first time I saw him pull off that stunt was on one of the first Biker Build-off shows on the Discovery channel shows featuring Jesse James’ work. I thought “this guy has got to be nuts!” Standing on the seat of a motorcycle at highway speed with no helmet is inviting disaster, big time.
Riding on the open road without a helmet is a personal choice (in the states that allow you to make that choice, anyway). I don’t know how many people I’ll tick off by saying this, but performing stunts on a motorcycle in a closed setting without a helmet is just stupid. I don’t know why the promoters of this event would let him do it, but I guess he’s done this stunt countless times before and gotten away with it. Unfortunately, his decision resulted in the unnecessary loss of a great talent in the custom bike-building world, and it seems in this case, a helmet would have probably saved his life. He will surely be missed by many.

It's called "Freedom"...freedom of choice...and thank God we still have some freedom here in America.

Nobody put a gun to Indian Larry's head and made him perform that stunt. He did it of his own free will, knowing full well the risks involved. Not to get into a helmet debate, but life is full of risks. And riding a motorcycle is about as risky as it gets...whether you wear a helmet or not. You could be wearing a full face helmet, and still get killed very easily, no matter if it's your fault or not...and some people would say...."You were stupid to be riding a motorcycle in the first place"

I don't think we should judge Indian Larry's desision to do what he did......we should just mourn the loss of a great person, and great talent

Whether youre wearing a helmet or not, bike or not, standing or not, when its your chance to go, theres nothing you can do about it. Here in SC there is no helmet law, and the majority of us do not ride with helmets, but that the choice. I did wreck, i wasnt standing and riding, but i was riding without a helmet, i crashed, i fucked up my leg, but lucky i didnt bust my head wide ass open also. I dont disagree with or with out the choice of ones who wear a helmet, if the law doesnt require a helment, then its a personal choice.
After my accident, i try not to put my self in situations where i know i could possibly get hurt. But that doesnt mean that something could happen.
The choice this wonderful craftsmen made, was his choice, hes performed many of these tricks, i wont call him stupid, his skills on bike building is far from stupid, but a stunt man is a stunt man, evil knivel ...hell he risked his life all the time (with a helmet), even his son (with a helmet) both wonderful stuntmen!
Its sad this has happened. Im not condoning your opinons, its your choice, you didnt piss me off. you stated what you felt, ive stated what ive felt. I think alot of us ride for the freedom. Had he had a helmet on, do think he would have really lived? i still believe when its your time, its your time and theres no arguing with that with the ONE who has control over your life.
ride safe and free, and helmet or helmetless.....just ride and enjoy the ride and becareful life is full of careless people.

I'm sorry we lost Indian Larry. Of all the builders I've seen interviewed I enjoyed him the most. He seemed to be trully genuine. The Real Deal. God Bless you Indian Larry.
