The only way.... to a new ride.

As most of you know, I'm in the hunt for a new ride (new to me, not neccessarily new). I've been trying to save up some dough to make this more of a reality and less of a pain. Savings sucks, and I can't do it unless I set some specific goals. It also helps to have people encourage or be able to see what you're doing and keep you stuck to your obligations.

In that sense, I'm outting my savings so I stick to it and you all can see what kind of progress I'm making in my bid for a new ride. I've set up my page at:

https://bikerforums.org/mongo/

for my savings goal, my status and daily updates. Everyday I'm going to try to find another way to make or save money. So check it out and once I reach my goal, I'll buy the bike and put the pics up in the 'savings page' place. Take a look and watch my money, hopefully, grow. later.

SAVINGS

Hello there,

I wish you much luck, yes, it is so diffucult to save, but a 1.00 a day, it would take you close to 11 yrs to collect up 4,000. UGH

Don't ya have a millionaire buddy somewhere, lmao

Good Luck

Well the $1 yesterday was just to show that I'm throwing whatever I have is going to the goal. After I posted that yesterday, I made another slick $200 with my side business, so I'm actually up to $201. I'll be working at some odd things, selling some stuff on eBay and hopefully selling more and more at my side business.

At least one dollar a day into the fund, but I've also promised myself that I should think of at least one way a day to save or make money for the fund.

I wish I had a millionnaire buddy to hit up for some cash....LOL.

I'll keep ya'll posted.

Savings

Morning to ya,

On my 2nd cup of coffee and browsing here, lol, shame we hard working folks have to go thru such withdrawals, to get what we want, ugh.

Have to pinch pennies all year to have anything at all for my biker trips, the income is less now, due to my retirement from nursing, tho I do get a small retirement, but perhaps now, at least I may live a bit longer to, in fact, enjoy my bike more.

I have many projects and goals to accomplish but seems that same ole factor keeps creeping back in, "the lack of cash", ugh.

I make myself put some money back each month, come hell or hi water, if I don't do that, then I would never get a bike trip.

I admire you for your spirit and tenacity, stick to it, who knows, Santa maybe be listening, lol, lol

Have a great and safe week

Knightgale:D

I think you should by a dual-sport (DR-650 would be my choice), that way you when you get to $4k you can buy the bike outright rather than using it as a down payment. Oh, and then I think you should let me borrow the DR too. heh, hehh...
;-)

SoberBiker 01-29-2003 07:15 AM

Excellant ida Mongo. Seems I have run into the same delemia. I want I want...so I save I save...but it never is enough! Now the latest project to save for is a R1150RT Beeeeeeeeemer. Have you checked them out. I rode one yesterday and man do they handle superb! Had it up to 110 mph on the autoban (I95) and it was rock solid and no wind to blur my vision! Plus it took about 2.5 secs to reach that speed! Of course that was a roll on @ 70 mph.

Good luck on the savings program...

PHAT-BOY 01-29-2003 09:56 AM

And just think, here in about 3 more days you'll be able to add another $50 if you beat me in the weight loss competition. Now, keep in mind that's a small if, cause at last check you were kicking my butt! Good luck my man, and let me know when we can start shopping again. :D

Wish I could take that fine machine from you...but unless you'll take $500 I don't think I can help ya.....LOL. I got a little more saving to do.

Thanks though....and let us know when ya let her go.

SoberBiker 02-10-2003 06:56 AM

Good luck in savin man...the only way to do it is to do it!

PHAT-BOY 02-10-2003 06:58 AM

Yeah, it's probably a little tough to sell a bike when it's in someone elses garage. Bummer man. Hope the bud comes through for ya. Best of luck on that scoot, and the new one.

SoberBiker 02-20-2003 05:53 AM

Got the word the other day...she's gonna be on the trailer and headed south for Bike Week! I will hate to see the bike go...but move onward and upward....the only thing constant in this world is CHANGE! And I hate it! LOL

SoberBiker 03-18-2003 08:24 AM

Well no luck during Bike Week (Rain Week). Hopefully the advertising on the net will bear some fruit.

Build it from ebay

I've been watching ebay and other online selling sites and I have concluded that you can build a motorcycle of your choice for a fraction of what it costs to buy a freshly manufactured one. And, as I see it it could be largely composed of brand new parts being sold at auction as take-offs resulting from part upgrades when people buy new bikes. There is almost no major part not readily available and in quantity. That may be an interesting experiment. It would be a new twist on "saving". Choose your scooter. identify the parts that compose it and seek them out. I'm certain one could experience at the least "some" success. Maybe ebay could give me 8500 dollars and tell me to build a new bike and I could then be like Jarrod from Subway, "New Wide Glide built on ebay for half what Harley charges. The only weieght he lost was some of that PRICETAG!!" Anybody want to put me to the challenge? :)

You have a point there my friend...only problem is...then ya have to get a certificate of origin and slap a builders title on it. H-D has a warrenty. Would you? H-D resales are the highest in the world. Having a builders title in your pocket is great, if you plan on keepin the bike for private use. If you plan on tryin to sell the bike, you will be fortunate to get what you have into it minus the labor.
Many have tried...many have come and gone. Even the aftermarket ligit company's have trouble when it comes to resale of their products. H-D has done such a great job marketing their product...ya just can't beat an original.

All That You Say Is True

And spoken with a scholarly eloquence that truly becomes you. I tho am a realist and it is riding them and appreciating them that appeals to me. Fact is, I would even be hesitant to "buy" an assembled scoot. But, only till that price break sunk-in. Those "competitors" are wasting their time in my eyes. I would no more pay those prices-which actually make Willie's look sane-than the man in the moon. Generally speaking, bikers are a little nuts. (gotta be to go out there on those things and endanger yourself so with all of those gophers driving around in those 2 ton cages all coming at us like guided missiles) That is a positive thing tho in that it usually makes the real ones amoung us well able to discern "real" from "fashion". Not all, but most.

Anyway...I still wanna get that grant and be like Jarrod-any takers???? (see, I got that initiative right back-I'm sober too, dude. Thirteen of 'em and I can think on my feet now. I get a little bit better everyday too!) :D

Mongo 03-20-2003 11:36 AM

I'll give you 8500 (Lire, Dinars, Drachmae, Forint, Kroner, or Kwacha) to build me a bike...WHERE DO I SEND THE MONEY?

Building vs. buying was never really in my mind. Although I do like rebuilding bikes and fabricating parts for style...SB hit the nail on the head as to why I would never build from the ground up. I work to make money, and ride to have fun...rather than working to ride and saving some money.

Building ground up would be fun, but there are drawbacks. Anyway, I'm getting closer to that bike...and within a few months (before summer hits mid-way) I should have another engine in between my legs (Woooahh.....I think that's ex-rated!)

Hell Mongo...just send the money to me and I'll send ya a really nice '86 FLHT! I would even deliver it to ya! LOL!!!

Mongo 03-30-2003 05:36 PM

Send me your address SB......and pick which money you want. You may want to check the exchange rates first though.....that list are some of the worst....I think the highest comes out to about $128.

SoberBiker 04-01-2003 08:44 AM

You have a point their my brother...but at this juncture...it might be the way to go...doesn't seem like anyone is makeing an even rediculous offer to me.

Well, the season is just getting under way...we'll have to see what kind of stuff falls outta the rubble.;)
