Some time off.....

Hey all,

Little bit of a hello and explanation. I haven't been posting much lately, work has been busy but I've had a lot going on otherwise too. As some of you know, my Father in law passed away in March of lung cancer. Even though it was a long battle, we're still kinda reeling from that one. Even though you think you have all bases covered - there are still tons of things to take care of and do in the aftermath. In addition, my grandmother passed away last week. She had a great life, very inspirational person, but none the less....a loss. She was 95 and I keep saying that if I make it half as far as she did....and kept nearly as active...I'd be happy. Not until she had a heart attack and 2 strokes in January (and left the hospital in 3 days) did she agree to go to an assisted living facility. Which brings me to my next point. Last year I had surgery for kidney stones....that was fun. Since then I've been alright, a couple weekends ago though I started having a real pain problem again. Long story short, I'm going in for a major surgery next Tuesday. So...everybody be good since I'll be layed up for a little while and for God's sake get outside and ride....step away from the computer.....GO...GET OUT THERE!!!!

Take care....

BeeLo 06-01-2005 08:15 AM

Hope you feel better and sorry for your losses man.

Randall 06-01-2005 11:13 AM

Hey Mongo, going thru those things is hard, but knowing they were happy in life is good comfort. Hope everything goes well in your surgery and hope you have a speedy recovery. We'll keep the roads busy for you while you out for a while. Keep us posted on your recovery. :)

WooHoo! 06-01-2005 12:38 PM

hang tuff Mongo! we're routing for you. i'm stepping away from the computer now and going riding. (salute)

Junkyard 06-02-2005 04:25 AM

Sorry to hear about your losses, man. Never is easy, like you said. Unfortunately, it's something we all have to deal with sooner or later. What you told of your grandmother reminds me of mine. She made it to 93, and was active right up to her last week. She never complained, or wanted anything from anyone. An inspiration indeed. Best of luck to you with your surgery, and a quick recovery. We'll all be pulling for you!

Oh, and don't be flirting with the nurses too much, OK? ;)

PHAT-BOY 06-02-2005 05:56 AM

Best of luck Bro, we'll be praying for ya.

HeavyDuty 06-02-2005 06:14 AM

I'm praying for ya and don't worry about my riding. During the summer that's all I use.

saponi 06-04-2005 04:41 AM

Mongo 06-05-2005 01:25 PM

Thanks everybody. Tomorrow is my 'last day' of vertical life for a while. After Tuesday I'll be horizontal and hopped up on goofballs. Until then I will heed the Doctors advice and continue to drink as much beer as possible.

DILLIGAF 06-05-2005 06:54 PM

I hope that everything goes well. Hopefully you will have a speedy recovery and be better than ever. Good luck and God bless. Take Care and Ride Safe.

PHAT-BOY 06-07-2005 09:04 AM

Ok guys and gals. Today is the day for Mongo's surgery so let's all say a little prayer for our fearless leader that he comes through ok. Hopefully he'll be back on the boards soon!

Junkyard 06-08-2005 04:25 AM

Amen to that, brother.

Mongo 06-08-2005 08:51 AM

I can sit up enough to type this....I'm not dead. Although, with this much pain...might be a better alternative. As soon as I can type (and sit up) a little more...I'll fill you all in. Thanks for the well wishes. BTW Phat-Boy I was watching tv pre-surgery and they were giving away free gas in Cedar Rapids....dude I hope you filled up containers for all of us.

WooHoo! 06-08-2005 08:52 AM

anyone see what Charlie Sheen did to his brother as he was going into surgery the other night on 2-1/2 Men? Too funny. It would be cool to do that to Mongo. Ok, that's wrong, I'm sorry. I apparently have a huge mean streak running right through the middle of me. Cheers to you Mongo and a speedy recovery!

PHAT-BOY 06-08-2005 11:35 AM

Yeah, apparently All State Ins. paid for so many gallons of gas for people. You could only get 10 gallons, and in the burb I would have burnt that up in line, it was over an hour wait. The gas station they chose was in a bad location, not really on anyones route to work. Still a cool thing. Apparently CR is the safest city under 500,000 in Population for driving. Apparently they didn't see me or any of the people I commute with in the morning! Either way, Cedar Rapids got a little recognition yesterday.

I'm glad you made it through ok brotha. Post when you can and get well soon!

I am a new poster, but wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your father-in-law and grandma. I am very close to both my grandmas and my 92-year-old great-grandma, whom I see at least every two weeks. I also lost my father last August...a single motorcycle accident. This is my first summer riding and I know my dad is behind me at all times. I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and hope you're back on the road in no time!

Junkyard 06-08-2005 05:51 PM

Glad to hear you're on the mend Mongo. Are they at least giving you some decent meds for the pain? Get well soon, man!

FatBoyRider 06-10-2005 08:09 PM

Mongo dude......how ya doin ?...better I hope :D

Long time no been here...I stop by to see what's what for a few seconds or so every so often...then gone again. I have been way to busy for much but work lately.

Sorry for your losses my friend, but as the old Eagles song "My Man" goes "We who must remain, go on living just the same".....

Glad you doing okay....get well soon my friend....

FBR

Hello Mongo....still around here

Hello there, good to hear from you and know you are on the mends, can't keep a good biker down, My best to ya, and be sure to follow the doc's advice, that type surgery is very major and requires some down time for sure, heading out toward Jaxville, Fl in a few weeks to catch up with some buddies, will pop in now and then, to say howdy do............Take care..............Knightgale :)

Randall 06-12-2005 02:46 PM

Hey Mongo, glad your on the mend. Can't keep a good rider down!!! :D

Mongo 06-13-2005 02:30 PM

Thanks all, just a quick update since I'm still on the mend. Today I got my stent out, a very life altering experience if you catch my drift. Please take note, tubes over 1 foot long are not intended to be inside the body...and they are a bitch coming out. It was an in office procedure, no drugs and no leather to chew on. Just a grin and bear it situation. Luckily, when the did the surgery last week they got a piece of the kidney stone for analysis so hopefully these won't come back. I have a feeling after this week, I'll be good to go.

Thanks again everybody for the well wishes, email and stuff that was sent to me. Take care.

harrigancan 06-13-2005 05:48 PM

Mongo I've been away for awhile and just heard of your surgery. Hope the recovery is quick and less painful. Good luck and keep in touch.
