Supporting our Troops

I am a veteran of the first Gulf War. I was always grateful when I received a care package in the mail. I think it would be a great idea if the members of this site got together and sent out care packages to our troops serving overseas. DILLIGAF comes to mind first since he is a member of this site and serving over there now.

DILLIGAF, let me know what you need or want over there and I'll see what I can do. (sorry, I can't send women through the mail) :( I need your address though.

Being Native American I also have family here who want to send packages to other Natives. If you know of any please let me know. I don't care if your Native or not. As far as I'm concerned if your serving in the military then we are all brothers under the skin.

I am also a member of the American Legion Riders and we support all of you 100%.

If anyone else has any ideas of how we can show our support let me know.

Great idea HeavyDuty! If anybody has any ideas post them in this thread. I'll be thinking about it today to see how we can set something up.

Again, thanks for the idea HeavyDuty, and a big thank you for those serving and those who have served.

This is a great idea, count me in.

Very good idea. We did a thing here at work with prepaid phone cards. Just a suggestion.

DILLIGAF 04-26-2005 11:50 AM

First let me clear up a few things. I am a civilian contractor. I am not a part of any branch of the US military. I am part of a Personal Security Detail (PSD) that is currently providing security services to “important people” in Iraq. I do not deserve the same praise of the men and women that are here serving our wonderful country. They deserve the up most respect from every free person in the world. At this time I do not need anything, but a few more weeks here and a plane ticket home. I am planning on taking the summer off and riding a lot. I will mention that our team lost three guys on 4-20-05. If anyone can say a prayer for them and their families I would appreciate it. HeavyDuty, one of the men that we lost was a Native American and a very good friend of mine. He was part of the Tuscarora Tribe. He was a very much into his Native American heritage. If there is anything that you can do that would be spiritually specific to his heritage that would be great. If there is going to be some care packages sent to our military personal I will offer whatever assistance I can.

P.S. HeavyDuty, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY!!!

DILLIGAF,

I knew a Blackwater guy that was killed last week, initials E.S. former Marine and USSS. Don't know if you're talking about the same group, let me know.

That's a good idea. How about a prepaid cards and a batch of homemade cookies? I know a place that would do cookies for cost.

DILLIGAF 04-26-2005 01:13 PM

Mongo,

I did not know the gentleman that you are talking about, but there is a good chance that we had meet before. I do not work for BlackWater, but their Green Zone compound is directly across that street from where I am staying. They lost several guys last week. It sucks sending warriors home, but they are in a better place.

HeavyDuty 04-26-2005 01:56 PM

DILLIGAF, what you do over there helps too. It takes some of the presure off of our troops so that they can do the job that they are trained for. Thanks for the info, I will do a service that my people do for him. I don't know anything about his tribe but I will do a prayer service for him.

Pre-paid phone cards sound good. I was also thinking of stuff like foot powder, deoderant & maybe some magazines. Games would also be a good idea. I will talk to my tribe here and see about sending decks of playing cards from the casinos. I would like to send this stuff to specific people or units if I can.

Everyperson that serves here in the homeland and across the waters Deserves the Utmost Thanks for everything they do and are doing. Not only for serving Faithfully to this Country but also for trying to bring peace to all nations. I had a friend who was serving in Iraq helping train Iraqi police officers and was killed during his time their. Every person serving in any capacity is GREATLY APPRECIATED, and GOD willing will be returned home safe when and where ever that might be. I will be happy to do my part and try to get some things to whoever is going to package and send them. Dilligaf, thanks for helping to rebuild another free nation, and prayers are always sent from my home to help keep everyone safe.

Count Me In!! Terrific Idea

Hellooo....this is great........need a person to be the main point of contact..........who all has pay pal set up?? (suggestion). Also, it is my understanding, items sent overseas to our troops are sent FREE by the U. S. postal service..at least it was that way when I still worked at the U. S. Army Medical Center, at Ft Rucker, Al., perhaps someone can check with the postal service about that.....We could pitch in a few $$ via pay pal and/or send some of the necessary items mentioned...need a point of contact and address of the recieveing person overseas, all only a suggestion. Was involved with Operation Bosnia, few yrs back, and sent out necessities for our troops, am willing to help, just say the word, how, when, and where........Military wife, retired nurse ;)

knightgale 04-29-2005 05:08 PM

That is a fabulous site, thanks for sharing.......I, personally, do not have any addresses of anyone overseas, so open for suggestion on how I might can help with this project, but DO count me in, for certain. :)
