Two New Hires At The Motorcycle Safety Foundation

Irvine, CA - (MCNW) The Motorcycle Safety Foundation announced that Ray Ochs has been named Director of Training Systems, and Philip Davidson has joined the MSF as Project Manager, reporting to Ray Ochs.

Dr. Ochs joins MSF from Eastern Kentucky University's Traffic Safety Institute where he has been teaching in undergraduate and graduate programs since 1976. Dr. Ochs has held teaching appointments at Indiana State University, Appalachian State University, and East Carolina University. He has consulted with several organizations in the area of driver and traffic safety education.

Dr. Ochs has several years of direct experience in motorcycle rider education and training. He is a certified MSF RiderCoach, and has been a certified Chief Instructor since 1980. He has conducted instructional preparation programs and professional development activities in all parts of the country, and has been a member of MSF's Rider Education and Training System Development and Oversight Team (RETSDOT) since inception. He also has been an Instructor and Chief Instructor for the ATV Safety Institute since 1985, and has served as a Chief Instructor Trainer recently.

Dr. Ochs specializes in driver and traffic safety education. He has served as project director for various motorcycle safety projects including the Kentucky Motorcycle Safety Rider Education Program. Dr. Ochs has been involved in curriculum development with the MSF and ASI. He offers a wealth of experience and expertise in program management and adult education and training.
Dr. Ochs possesses a bachelor's degree from Northwest Missouri State University, master's degree from Indiana State University, and doctoral degree from the University of Tennessee.

Philip Davidson will oversee and coordinate the implementation of current training initiatives for the MSF to ensure that they are aligned with and support the MSF's mission and vision. He will manage curriculum development projects, oversee the RiderCoach and RiderCoach Trainer certification systems, create professional development materials and contribute to professional development workshops, and participate in planning initiatives and training modules to expand MSF's Rider Education and Training System (MSF RETS).

Davidson comes to the MSF as a recent graduate of Southern Illinois University, earning his Bachelor of Science in Workforce Education and Development. He previously served four years as a Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper, where he coordinated with various governmental agencies in the greater Seattle area to integrate safety and training services between the WSP and existing Washington state/federal programs such as drug interdiction and other public safety initiatives. His experience in public safety, implementing education and training systems, and refining managerial processes, makes him a valuable addition to the MSF team.

As part of his role in supporting MSF RETS, Davidson is obtaining various certifications such as MSF RiderCoach Trainer and a MSF DirtBike School Coach Trainer. He is a motorcycle enthusiast who enjoys motorcycle touring and uses his bike for daily transportation.
