Carbarator or EFI, what is the best if you plan on making changes to your bike. Such as exaust, air filters, ect.... Bike type to buy ElectraGlide Standard
Welcome. I have a buddy who bought a 2004 Electraglide Standard last spring. Resonable MSRP for a dresser. Only drawback is he could get it in any color as long as it was black. I believe that has changed for '05, and they now offer a choice of colors. The motor is all polished aluminum, so it's up to you as to how much chrome you want to add. The only thing he did so far was add a radio. All in all, it's a nice bike for the $$, and has a lot of potential for you to add as much or as little accessories as you want.

They got an mp3 player for that sucker now. cool.
I have a friend that has one....it depends on how much you want to spend for upgrades. My friend added a chopped tor pack, stereo system, lot's of chrome. Now he says he should have went ahead and got a classic, or ultra for the money he has tied up in it.
The E-Glide Standard is a good value if you leave it like it is..... FBR  |
Junkyard, thanks for the advise. I'm new to the seen of street bikes and Harleys. Thanks for all the help....
WooHoo, thanks, I have thought about that. I under stand a stereo is about $1000.00. Its MP3 or Satilite stereo, never loose your station no matter how far you travel. Thanks again..
FatBoyRider, thanks for the advice. I like the Standard the way it is right now. But I'm sure the longer I own it, I will want it to change. I am kind of on a budget right now. All I really would like to change to start with is exaust. Any recommendation? Thanks again.

By the way, Welcome to BikerForums. Looks like you're already getting some good info. Stick around, tons of good people here.

What's wrong with a Hangover- Your day can only get better!!!!!!!
Thanks Mongo...Glad to be a part... New to me, need all the help I can get... And who better to ask. Than someone who has been there.
If your on a budget you can just put a set of slip on's on it. I recommend Vance & Hines...but that's a personal opinion. I'm sure there are some other good choices. I've heard good things about Wild Pigs also, you can get them on EBay for a good price, also if I were you I would get one with a carb, lot easier to set up, and rejet for the pipes....of course that's another of my worthless opinions :D
That new "Black Cherry Pearl" paint is the cat's ass...I love that color. FBR  |
FBR likes cat's asses too, so he should know. :p
Wassup cardrn66, welcome to the forums. Don't know anyone with a bike like yours, so I'm not a lot of help. Enjoy your stay! |
You know me PB....I love pussy :D
FBR  |
As FBR said, a carb will be easier to set up if you change your pipes and or air filter. Plus you'll save $400.00 by not getting EFI (that's about what you'll wind up paying for a pair of V&H slip-ons) If you go the EFI route, you'll have to get the fuel injection schedule re-mapped. Don't know what the dealer or an independent shop will hit you to do that, but I'm sure it's going to be between $100 and $200. I have EFI on my Road King and I really like it. It's just a pain when you make changes to the engine. Once you're done though, it's great. Or, to qoute FBR, the cat's ass! :D
I agree with junkyard, if you have EFI then and you make any changes to the exhaust or engine then you have to get the EFI remapped or it just won't run right. For carb bikes, especialy baggers, a CV carb is the best bet. They don't get very fussy if you make a lot of elevation changes.
By the way, welcome to bikerforums. |
I think the law states that a E-glide std must be bought in bad-ass black only. Throw on some Samson fishtail slip-ons, roll up your t-shirt sleeves, light a grit and hit the road. Get some old-school pin striping or air-brushing along the way somewhere ;-)
Thanks for the info, I just put the same thing in again so please disregard...Thanks for all the help...
Just had my exhaust replaced. Mechanic said I also neede a better flowing air cleaner. I had also requested that but the dealership forgot to put it on the list. The other guys are correct, if you've got FI, then you'll need a re-map of the electronics to make it work right.
Thanks Natural, I need all the help I can get.. Two heads are better than one as they say... I am going to look at a couple of bikes tommorrow... Can't decide between the Black or Black cherry pearl Electaglide Standard. Got to see the color in person before I can decide....Thanks again...
That'd be a no brainer for me. I'd get the black cherry in a heartbeat!
Gotta see the black cherry
Plain 'ol black is definately a classic color for any motorcycle, but I've seen the black cherry at my local dealer, and it won me over. Very sharp color, and not like every other pre '05 E-Glide standard out there. It all boils down to what you like. Happy shopping!
You really need to see the Black Cherry in the sunlight...WOW
