Hello from England, help to plan my next trip please!
Hello
I am new to the forum but it looks a great place to get some help. I travelled to Las Vegas recently and spent one day in death valley on a rented Triumph. I loved it and now I want to come back but spend much more time on a motorcycle. I am planning on coming over in Sept so just looking for any advice on routes, motels, camping and stuff to see. Also looking for any new friends in the USA to ride out with. Please get in touch. Jane:cool: |
where to start!!!!
ok in vegas area Mount charleston take 95 north and turn left(rt 157) up mount Charleston they have nice lodge and restraunt up there and it is cool unlike the 100 degrees it will be in town in sept. then backtrack over mountain past hilltop campground to Ski resort and back down rt 156 to 95 again and head south to vegas next... Red rock canyon on west side of town take west charleston rt 159 west pay $3 and do Red rock loop then take right and you will pass mountian state park $5 (old Howard Huges Ranch) can walk around there then west another mile to Bonnie springs (old Nevada) bikes always free old west town with gunfights and restraunt and bar keep going west to rt 160 ( take right and go to 'hump to Pahrump" )and stop at top at Spring Mountion bar " biker Bar" rt will take you to Pahrump cathouses left back to vegas. another.... take las vegas blvd south "the strip" as far as it goes to Jean head west on Good springs road 6.5 miles to Pioneer Saloon www.pioneersaloon.info can take Las vegas Blvd back or I-15 to vegas from jean and then there is ride thru Lake mead park Take Boulder hwy to Henderson turn left East on Lake mead Blvd til you get to park gate take north road it rides 56 miles of nice twisties to Overton NV (charlies has good food in Overton) then hop on 15 south back to vegas if you want to go without helmet take 93 over boulder dam and go 35 miles down to Rosie's and back or head down to Kingman and RT 66 and Oatman AZ or even farther to Lake Havasu and London bridge There are more but you will be lucky to ride all those Renegade SRMC |
Thanks v much for info
hey xaxer thanks for the info. Wish I had spoken to you b4 I went to vegas last month.
I got my bike cyclease last time and I believe they are linked to Mototrends. Just mailed them today and they say I should enjoy bike week in vegas in sept, what do you think? I am very keen on maps and must admit I enjoy planning my routes nearly as much as riding them! Need some US road maps now so I will be looking on Ebay or amazon. Thought I might camp or stay overnight in death valley, are there any accomodations out there? ttfn Jane |
map of vegas
http://tinyurl.com/3cznpn death valley will be a hot ride even in sept! but .. www.stovepipewells.com will help with hotel mapquest above will help with driving from Vegas thru Parumph and armagosa valley to death valley Motortrends has moved from Pecos and sunset to western so you know the vegas and henderson harley dealers both rent bikes too but you can probbly google motorcycle rental las vegas and find cheaper ones. it is hot here in sept will be 95-100 during day and 70-75 at night still if you find casinos away from strip rooms will be cheaper sams town or sunset stations, boulder city has railroad pass casino and right by dam is haceinda casino-rooms are cheaper mon-thru and go up on weekends also cheaper to fly in or out on tuesdays at least you are wanting to get out of casino some come here never leave their casino or the strip and there is a lot to do away from it most us locals stay as far away as we can to be honest. but if you want to see a show try www.vegas.com |
Las Vegas Bikefest
Bikefest is still young but getting better every year
this year Kansas and Marshal Tucker band are playing many of the poker runs for that are same rides up Mountain and thru Lake Mead Park I mentioned The Vendors are at Cashman field and they have 3 stages on north side at Freemont Street. I tend to stay away from there during that event as I am in a MC and the LEO's are not "friendly" twoards us during that event in that area http://www.lasvegasbikefest.com/content/index2.html but it is not a bad little rally I really think you will like that better than Death Valley at that time of year They dont call it DEATH valley for nothing you know. |
Death Valley
I was talking to the guy at the gas station in death valley at Furnace creek last time I visited. He said the same as you....he said death valley was a nice ride in Feb but far too hot in the summer. He has an old triumph.
I still want to try it as it is always soooo cold over here in England. Think I will give the bikefest a try and I have looked up some cheap flights today. Reason I liked the bike rental so much last time was they have a triumph and that is what I ride at home. Believe me it is hard enough trying to ride on the wrong side of the road without learning a new bike! The stovepipe wells info looks good for a stop over and I cant believe I missed the bar in Parhump. Drove through there last time. Least I should get a nice tan in Sept!!! Trying to get my friend to come with me but she struggling to pay the bills. If not I will travel alone. You find people always chat to you when you are alone anyhow. Jane |
