Hi Ya'll ! I'm from Loouisiana

Born and raised here in the land of good food , and partys of all kinds . Only thing bad about this state is them big bugs with the loong nose that love your blood <G>
Been riding since '56 and owning since '65 . 7 new Harleys for wife and I and had 5 Honda's and 1 Yamaha for the kids to play with in the woods . Am retired but drive a Dump Truck for our play money . Bought a new "Geezer Glide" cause wife's Behind has gotten as big as my gut and she don't like to sit on them little pads I had on rear fender for her . Also you'll be amazed at all the crap she loves to bring along on runs . Might have to start towing a trailer <G>. Ya'll come on down to the Swamp Lands sometime for a different kind of adventure .

I used to live there!

I was stationed at Fort Polk for my first four years in the United States Army INFANTRY. I did not know how good I had it while I lived as a transplant in your wonderful state!! I could ride my little Hondahohos and yamahahas EVERY day!! Why did I come back to Michigan I CAN NOT tell you!! I absolutely hate waiting for this snow to make way for 3 of the loveliest months in the entire world. No matter that summer here is almost oerfect, waiting for it will just kill you. Especially since I got this Wide Glide in the garage. I would LOVE to move back down there. My wife doesn't want to leave Michigan tho. I hear you on the skeeters. We used to say they could stand flatfooted and impregnate a chicken. We used to accuse the skeeters of dragging off the awols too.
Know you are in the right place for biking. I miss it. ITW

Hey ITW ;
I have been all over the world and met plenty people and tell them about La. and they would look at me and call me a Swamp Rat . Sure , I have spent a week or two in the Atchafalaya Swamp during hunting season , fishing season , boating season , crawfish season , Riding season , etc . Sportsman Paradise , Bayou State , are a few of the sayings on our license plates . They ought to have one that says Bikers Paradise , cause for sure it is ! EXCEPT during the sumer , man , with the humidity , it's like your winters . So , ride at nite and don't stop cause of them long nose bugs <g> . Bring your Other Half on the scoot down here and let her pig out on the crawfish and GREAT riding weather and then she might have different thoughts of staying up in the frozen Nawth <g> . WOMEN ! Can't live with them OR without them ! <BFG> I know . I got one I have been with for 36 years . email me when you come back and I'll show you the REAL PLACES to ride a Scooter or Boat ...Raymond

Welcome , to the forum....Neighbor. I live right next door to ya in Texas. I live between Beaumont & Houston , and My mom was born in La , and is a registered Cajun (lol). I have relatives in the Lake Charles area , so La is kinda like my second home. I don't know if you have plans to attend the Texas state H.O.G rally in April . If not I would like to invite you & anyone else that might be interested. It will be held in Beaumont (close to Louisiana as you can get) Here's the website for the rally for info...If you decide to go let me know so we can get together.

Ho Fatboyrider ;
My Dad was born in Port Neches , Texass and I got a bunch of kinfolks in Port Arthur , Netherland , Beaumont , Groves , Texass . That part of Texass is really West Loouisiana cause a lot of Loouisiana people went over there to work for Texaco and other oil companies . In speaking of Lake Charles , I have an Aunt that lives there also . My name is German but we bred with all the Koonasses down here that all of me is mostly French , even usta speak the language but since I moved away from New Iberia , La I don't get to speak it much so I can only remember the dirty words . <G> Would'nt mind going to the Txstatehogrally so I'll look into my schedule and if it don't conflick I'll see ya there . Thanks for the welcome ...Raymond

I had a memory!

TC88exshov-how ya! I was sitting here fooling around and had a memory I wanted to share. My wife and I back in 76 took a ride to the gulf on a new Yamaha we bought down there and rode that little scoot right out onto the beach. It bogged down in the dirt and we swam around in ocean water for the first time ever and on the way back home at night the bugs were so bad that we had to keep stopping and cleaning off the headlight! There was another season that there was some green stuff in the air so thick that it would darken out the headlight too as the bugs. What is the name of those little bugs and what was that green stuff? Grins always and run it like ya stole it-ITW-Dan

ITW ;
<< we swam around in ocean water >>
There no ocean down here <G> . You swam around in the Gulf Of Mexico and the salt water is real brown looking till you get on over to the Florida side of the Gulf , why , I don't know , WAIT ! the nasty Mississippi River dumps into the Gulf at the bottom of Loouisiana .
<< Green stuff in the air >>
I've seen what your talking about but it was just before dusk and I was crossing the Atchafalaya Swamp . Don't know what it was , but glad it was just above the treetops . I have ran through a swarm of mosquito hawks and man do they hurt .
The big swamp we have down here produce some weird things ( and they are good to eat ) . Us Cajuns eat anything that moves <G> I LOVE MY STATE !!! Raymond

In The Wind 03-29-2002 02:14 PM

IT'S A JOY!!

Raymond, It is an "ocean" to a Michigander-I am aware tho that it's really the gulf. LOL I hear you on the "weird" swamp stuff and May God always bless all ya'll for those dietary standards!!LOLOLOLOL!!! No greater truth ever been told, Sir, that cajuns know how to eat and how to party. I DO believe in looking back on it that living in Loouisiana was maybe the highlight of my life and definately the highlight of my Army life. If I ever can get back that way I will holler at you and plan some ride together. Grins always-Dan
