Changing spocket ?
 

I'm thinking of changing my rear sprocket,
to get a little more low end performance.
I have a 1999 Softail FXSTC, it has the stock
setup (32 front, 65 rear) I believe.

Thinking of going to a 70 in the rear.

Any advantage or reason to do the front vs rear ?
Obviously if I were doing the front I'd go down.

Is there a way to tell if I can keep the original belt
with the 70 in the rear ?

Any recommendations on rear sprockets ?

On my `91 I had the 32 x 70 set-up.I went to 34x70,same belt.Now I`m 32x65,had to get a belt.I think it`s a 30.you need to go backwards from me.I don`t know how involved you want to get with this but here is what I did.To enhance your bottom end AND still cruise well, put on the Johnson Twist Gear.It`s the helical 5th.gear main set up.I`t will lower your 1st. thru 4th. ratios and 5th will remain the same. I think it`s 10 percent can`t remember off the top of my head.I did it 2 years ago.It is quite noticeable when you drop it into 5th. from 4th.There are charts on nightrider that can tell you about how all the gears and sprockets on the drive train give what ratio and you can choose your own set up.Johnson Twist gear.net can give you the ratio`s with they`re set up.I think also that J$P have a chart for belt requirements for the pulley variations.Hell,I`ve the a belt if you want to by mine.Just thought of that after all this typeing.Good luck.Toby

Forgot,if you want to change front only to maybe a 30 and keep the 65 it may be at the back of the adjuster but it might work.Remember I went up 2 and I had enough.Hell I`ve got a good 70 w/chrome cover (used) if you want to go that route.Toby
