Gas tank rust

My 750 Magna gas tank is rusting inside in the neck. what can I do to remove rust and prevent it returning.

The best advice I can give you is sand it down if it's not too bad and apply some paint to it. Then put a solid wax coat on it to protect it from the elements. It's never good when the tank is deteriorating. Be careful.

Do nothing. Keep the gas topped off during non-riding seasons. Condensation licks the top of the thank. Imagine the rust there you can't top the gas off that high.

Here is what I used to do. I would drain the tank for winter. Pour ATF in the tank and roll the tank till I thought I'd have all corners and ceiling covered. Then mid winter, I would go out and roll the tank again to wipe a new layer over the old oil film.

I would drain as much ATF as possible. Fill the tank and let the dilution begin. You will have more debris running through the screen and engine with that kind of sanding, you might cause problems rather than just leave it alone. Think of all the rusty tanks that are still running with all that rust above the top of the tank. Just a thought.
