silicone brake fluid

Hi there, I was wondering if switching to silicone based brake fluid on my 2006 bmw r1200rt would offer better braking performance

First, what does the cap say on the master cylinder? Does it say plain old Dot3 or Dot4? Then no, do not switch to silicone.

Are you racing? No. Where a high boil point oil would work in that type environment. Dot4 a little higher in the boiling point than Dot3? Yes. So would you be safe the cap says Dot3 and would the brake lines and rubber care if it had a higher boiling point at Dot4? No.

So, if liquid is pressed at say 100psi. Would it matter if water or oil was pressed at 100psi, would the oil change, you thinking it would make a difference? Do we see heat is the only difference when all is said and done?

Now, you see the danger where it says the 'supple seals make for better lube.' So, will it leak as a variable; you do not have that kind of rubber to take on that chemical reaction to the seal.

We call the local dealer to see if they had to rebuild too many silicone brake oil changes.
