alarm

hi guys, i'm new here. i couldn't find a thread relating to security issues so....had anyone here had any experience with alarm or other security systems for their bikes? are there any excellent products out there? what about lojack? does it really work? thanks in advance for your help?

IMVHO, alarms will only keep the honest people honest.

Will it keep your bike from getting stolen? Only from a very casual theif. An expierenced theif will get your bike no matter what you do.

Yeah, I agree with Special Ed. Alarms and any kind of locking device (wheel or cables/chains) are for psuedo safety. I don't know what the recovery rates on Lojack are but with them at least you get a chance to get the bike back.

Most bikes are stolen with a truck or van. A couple guys hop out, lift 400-500lbs and they're gone.

If you chain your bike up, make sure you do so against a solid, immoveable object. That way, they can't just lift and run. Use a wheel lock as well.

Best if you take it with you inside the house. :D

Lo-jack

I just purchased my bike yesterday! Had the option to get lo-jack, decided not to at this time but was a 1 time fee of 750. If the bike ever got stolen i would jsut call the local pd tell him some info he would activate the lo-jack and wa-la door to door service to my bike! Dont think it costs anything for the search. Also you can get from 5 - 30% of comprehensive insurance with it in mass.

FYI,

And for a chain? They have this nice tool called bolt cutters. So in that sence your not really safe.
