Aux. Power Outlet

I have an 03 FXDWG & I'm thinking of adding a cigar lighter type power outlet on my bike to run 12v accessories while I ride, such as a cell phone charger, Walkman, etc...
I have about 20 years of automotive experience doing mainly drivability & electrical repair so the actual circuit connections for it should be rather simple. My question is, has anyone ever done this before, and if so, where did you mount it so it's not exposed to the elements, yet convienient to use? I'm just looking for idea's as to where I could mount the socket & bracket. I have looked at my bike for hours wondering where a good spot would be. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had it on my 95 Heritage. I mounted it underneath the tank on the left hand side, right in front of the horn. Seemed like a logical place and I don't recall running into any problems. Believe me, it's cool as hell to be able to light a cigar off of that thing....came in mighty handy on the road.

Yeah, trying to light up using a Bic at 70 MPH is next to impossible. Behind the horn might be a good place to put the socket, I'll try hiding it there & see how it looks. I can run the wiring for it in the harness along with the horn wiring too. Now I need to fab a small bracket to mount it. Thanx for the tip. I'll let you know how it turns out.

:) :p :)

Aux plug

You can purchase a weatherproof aux. plug with a watertight seal. I mounted one on my Dyna near wiring harness in triple trees.

I have a nice one that mounts to braket on my horn. Its not a cigarette lighter but the bmw typw connector - which is smaller and harder to notice. I use it for my gerbing heated clothes. It has an adapter so you can use regular cigarrette lighter accesories. I got it at Sportcruiser in Martinez.
