Beemer down

News about my adventures on the "Couch". I was waiting at a stop light here in Daytona when a guy decided he was gonna back up to gain acess to a parking lot for a resturant on our right. I fumbled a second too long and he backed the van into the bike. I was able to keep the bike up right and he stopped when I finally got to the horn.

He did $3K worth of damage to the front of the bike. That's not so bad but, now BMW is saying that they have run out of Painted Parts for my bike! Worse yet, they don't know when they will have more! The owner of dealership here is placing a call to Germany today to try and wrestle them out of the parts needed for my repairs. After all, the bike is an '05 model. How in the world can they be completely out of parts for this thing? It's still in production for Christ's sake!

Oh well, the joy of motorcycling hey?

Just thought I'd drop in and say hey...How ya'll doin?

Sounds like it could have ended up much worse. Any bike accident where you come out unscathed is a good bike accident.

As far as the parts issues go, its typical BMW. My dad has a 325 convertible that he leased a while back. The air conditioning kept failing and the dealerships here didn't keep any parts in stock for them. They had to send to Germany every time the car broke. He ended up driving a dealer supplied rental just as much as the car he was supposed to be driving. I have no idea who is in charge of their procurement and resources departments (perhaps not having those positions is the problem), but they need to get new folks in there.

SoberBiker, man.....that hurt me to hear the Beemer got banged up. I bet it was one of those things that you seemed like you were just watching.

Hopefully, they'll find some parts for you to fix her up.

Not too bad around these parts, busy as hell with work and finishing a lot of stuff around the house. Keep the spirits up, she'll be all fixed up in no time....then you can come ride the smokey's with us in the spring.

Wow, that could have been a lot worse. Glad you are ok man. Sounds like the dealer is doing his best for you on the deal. Hopefully something comes up soon. Like Mongo said, you'll re ready for the Smokies for sure!!

Thanks guys...went to the dealer last week and found that they were putiing the "Couch" back together. Should have it back today or tomorrow. BMW hadn't had a change of heart, my dealer (Daytona BMW) went above and beyond the call of duty. Went asked about how this was taking place, the owner just said, "I told ya I would take care of you and get you back on the raod, so that's what I am doing." This, to me is extrodinary. I know what he's done, tho I am not at liberty to discuss it, but non the less, far above the norm of service. My hats off to BMW Motorcycles of Daytona.

So guys, as far as being in the Smokies in the spring, scheduling permitting, looks like I'll be there!

Thanks for the posts and hope ya'll had a happy "T" day :)

Glad you are OK. That is the main concern. also glad to hear your bike will be up and running soon. Sounds like you have a great dealer. Wish we had your weather so I could be riding more. Temps here around freezing with snow flurries.

When stopped I was taught to always have an escape route. Never let yourself be trapped. It could have been someone coming up behind you w/ no brakes.
