Bike lifts, what type is best?
 

Reason that I am throwing this out is.... Eventually (When my wife is not around to see me take the Checkbook), I am looking at getting a Full Bike Lift, the Table type.

Just curious as to what some of you are using (Pnuemetic, Electric, Hydraulic, or a Combo).

The one that I really like is an Electro-hydraulic unit that has a hinge on the front, to drop away so as to do front wheel service, a screw type center lift to stabilize, and a panel in the rear that slides away to assist in R&R of the back tire assy.

Does anyone here know of this table, and where i can get more info?

Devil, I bought a platform lift from Handy industries. It's the best move I've made. Mine uses an air compressor but they make one in electric, only a little more money. It lifts the bike right where I need to work on it. It also makes changing oil and even polishing the bike a breeze. You see the adds in bike mags all the time.

Skin, I have the Sam's Club Special, and don't get me wrong, but sometimes a guy just needs a bigger, newer toy. I hope that I can find the one that I was talking about earlier. Looking at pics, it is sooooo nice.

Devil, the Sam's club special is a good lift for what it is. If I remember seeing a picture of your bike, you have a Dresser, the Sam's lift is a pain the rear for changing your oil, it's in the way of your drain plug. So then you have to lay on the floor to get under your bike. The table or platform lifts are the best for this. The only problem I can see with a platform lift is if you don't have a lot of room on your garage. They ain't small. Some of them can also be expensive. I bought mine when Handy Industries was having a sale and still paid just over $700 with shipping.

I have the Sam's Club model and it has a Hydralic Jack. It is too high to fit under my 2000 FLSTF, I have a 2x4 that I roll the back tire on before slidding lift under bike. I even use the lift while washing and cleaning. Works well but is a rather cheep model as the bolts on parts are now bent because it uses no bushings. I wished I had room for a Platform Lift.

Rapido, when you go to change out the bolts on that lift, get grade 8 bolts. The ones that are in there are grade 5. Also, if the holes are egg shaped, might try to go the next size bigger bolts by drilling the holes. If you, or you know someone who can weld, have them weld peices of pipe in for bushings. The lift is a good lift, just need to do some maintaince on it from time to time, as with anything mechanical. I hate to see someone loose a bike off the lift because a bolt broke or bent to much. Of course, if you know this stuff already, I apoligize.

My personel preferance is the electric lift mostly because you can stop it at any spot in the lift ,where as the hyd lifts have to go to a locking point and are not always at the height you might like

On a run to Myrtle Beach I bought the $600 (shiping) Pit Bull Motorcycle Lift . They have cheaper models also . Mine I just roll it under my 2000 FLHTCUI while it's on side stand and press lever ( air or hand operated ) and it will upright and lift bike up to 25 inches . Never have to have some one hold scoot while lifting or rolling around . They have places for tie-downs if you want to use them . Jack weights 117 lbs and has lifetime warrenty . Great for washing tires as both tires are off ground and freewheeling .

im currently working on building a floor mount type lift for bikes (the reason the sporty aint redone yet) and ill see what i can turn one out for.you will drive it up on it . it will have a front wheel lock to hold it upright. keep on me and ill get it done and figure cost. dont get me wrong ill never get rich and wont charge outrageouse prices. later REDNECK

As a dealer of lift tables, I recommend folks who are shopping to be sure to look at net weight of the lift.You will have a better sense of thickness, whether it's proper gauge steel, etc. When we research other companies that sell lifts for a couple hundred bucks, you can see the overall quality is not good, and they will eventually buckle or break. Make sure you Google these cheaper options thoroughly to really know what you are getting yourself into. You will find that they are not what they seem and that cheaper is not better. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is.
