Dumb Sportster question time

83 Ironhead Sporty 1000

Where is the drainplug for the oil on this beast? I know it's basically a 'dry sump' design, but I think there should be at least a little oil left in the motor when it's not running and since the motor is lower than the oil tank, the oil within the engine would seem to contain the most crap I don't want in ther. Any ideas?

PS - I did buy the $60 factory service manual, but it's currently boarded up in the garage after a breakin waiting on a new door and I looked for it last year prior to the breakin and couldn't find it. So, my bike sits in the living room on a tarp...

Don't know about an iron head, but I know the evo's don't have a drain plug on the engine, just the tank. I think most dry sump engines would be the same. what little oil is left in the lower end should be negligible.

Drain the tank, fill it back up, put a new filter on, and then start the bike. If there is anything in the motor, the new filter will/should catch it. Then just replace the filter and oil you lost changing the filter, and you'll be all set.
