Exaust for my Road King

I am looking for slip ons for my road king. Need more sound but not bone shaking. Any suggestions. I like the looks of Samson turn outs but have no Idea how loud they are.:)

PHAT-BOY Dec 28, 2003 06:59 AM

I have Samson pipes on my Fatboy, love them. I'm sure HD has a Screamin Eagle set for you to look at as well. Go to some bike shows and ralley's and look for Road Kings that have aftermarket exhaust, ask them what they are. Then you get a chance to listen as well.

Oh yeah, and welcome to the boards!

Hip Cat Dec 28, 2003 07:15 AM

Thanks Sounds good. Just bought the bike and it came with a 500$ gift cert. can't think of a better way of spending it than ordering a set of pipes

I have a friend that just put Vance & Hines slip on's on his 2003 RK "Firefighter Special". They sound good, although not as loud as I like, but they have a deep rumble that sounds like a Harley should :-)

I have an 03 Road King. It goes into the shop for Stage 1 kit in January. The service manager recommended Kerker mufflers. They have a removeable baffle with a wrap around it so you can go with baffle & wrap or take wrap off or take whole baffle out. He fired up bikes all three ways and I think I will be sticking with wrap and baffle. I want a deeper sound and a little louder than stock but not so loud that my wife won't ride with me. If I ever change my mind about the wife out comes the baffle. Ha Ha.
Good luck with your choice. There are so many exhausts out there that it is very confusing.

I have an 03 also and my story is the same. Got to keep the wife happy. Thanks for the Info

I have Screamin Eagle exhaust on my 95 Electra glide
I like the way they sound , deep but not too load I can't hear the radio

I had Sampson slip-on fishtails on my RK before switching to straight pipes. The fishtails sounded great, loud but not obnoxious. I like obnoxious so I'm much happier with my shotguns. ;-)

Just got back from the dealer. Ordered a set of Vance & Hines. I have used them before and liked their quality. I'm not the type to sit around and wait once I have made up my mind.

PHAT-BOY Dec 29, 2003 08:59 AM

Good Boy! I don't know that any of us could sit around long with a $500 GC to an HD shop.

WooHoo! Dec 30, 2003 06:13 AM

heh heh, ya really, good job. can i have the V&H decals? kidding.

Vance & Hines is an excellant choice. Great pipe! I really like the sound of the Sampson Ovals tho. Deep throaty with noise but not too much. Can only get them thru Drag Specialties tho.;)

Got the Vance & Hines last night. Took 45 minutes to slap them on.
Excellant set of pipes. To bad its 12 deg outside with 3 inchs of fresh snow.

But you did the right thing and called your best bud on the phone and revved it up so he could hear it right? Not that I've ever done that or anything. ahem.

I called him up but refused to let him hear them. He will have to be here in person with a cold beer in his hand to hear them. The only way I can guarantee his safty.

Nice bike Hip Cat, I have a "04 Road King that I am looking for a set of slip-ons for. I am considering the Basanni slash cut ones myself. Did the dealer do the remap for $150.00 or is your's the carb model?

harrigancan Jan 26, 2004 05:06 AM

Nice pipes Hip Cat. I'm expecting my 03 gunmetal Road King back today from having stage1 one put on. I opted for Kerker slip ons with turn down tips. Can't wait to fire it up. Wish I could ride it but too much snow, ice and cold weather.

Hip Cat Jan 26, 2004 07:23 AM

my 03 RK is gunmetal also. Love the color. Up here in Mich. the winter sure is long but gives us time to fix up the bike. Must have 30 coats of wax on her already.

Hip Cat Jan 26, 2004 07:29 AM

My RK is carb and I ordered Vance & Hines jet kit. I have not installed recieved them yet but they will be in within 2 weeks.

harrigancan Jan 27, 2004 02:55 PM

Here in Southern Ont. we have alot of snow, ice and cold weather this year. I have one coat of wax on but will add more when the bike comes back. Didn't get it yet because of the weather. Should be home tomorrow. I hope.

Good luck with that. I know you've been in a deep freeze for a bit now. We're experiencing -29F to -45F at the moment, along with the snow. :(

I have a hard time with not being able to ride the Springer these days.
