H-D V-twin trivia
 

Okay Harley riders,
I love to read about the early history of the Harley Davidson Motor Co. And I thought it would be fun to see if any of you can answer these questions about what year the different V-twins were introduced by the MoCo. First try to see if you can remember "off the top of your head" when these motors were first introduced.....if that doesn't work look em up. I love history, and I have learned quite a bit about the history of the MoCo...okay here goes....what year did the following motors appear...

Now, before anybody cries foul, let me tell ya how I know these years. About 3 years ago, my wife bought me a book "The Complete History of Harley Davidson". That book has been a fixture in the bathroom, and everybody that visits and takes full advantage of the bathroom always compliments on how cool the book is. Obviously, I've kept it there...and also placed it 'in the rack' in our new house....so when I'm taking full advantage of the facilities I browse the book. 3 years of reading the book on the can have finally paid off. Hell, I've read it soo much that I could rattle off displacements, head/case/cylinder design, a little story about each engine, and even scan in a picture of each for ya.

Knew my 'office reading' would pay off some day.

Here's an interesting note about the first V-twin Harley-Davidson introduced, it was a 45 degree V, displacing 49.5 cubic inches, and producing a "whopping" 7hp.....

It's amazing how much the basic design, and simplicity of the V-twin motors has stayed much the same, but at the same time thru the years the engineering has brought us to a point of having very high tech , yet reliable motors. And in comparison to the first H-D V twin, the new "Revolution" V twin powering the V-Rod is a 60 degree V-twin, producing 115 hp, and an RPM redline limit of 9000 RPM's....

We've come a long way baby !!!!

Nice bit o trivia there fella's. I need to get me one of those books.

Bone stock V-Rod runs 12.20 at 105 mph in the quarter mile. Not too shabby for a stock HD. Friend of mine that's a dealer took one to the local track for testing. Won the class that day. They are consistant!

Yes the Revolution will no doubt be added to more Harleys in the near future....attached is a "computer designed" Road King with the Revolution motor, and a little V-Rod influenced styling...

My bad, when I first posted this I called it a Softail...then I looked again and saw the rear shocks.....and realized it was a Wide Glide...duh !!!

One more for ya...
 

Okay, just one more....a Electra Glide Classic with the Revolution......seriously I think this is what we will be seeing in a few years or sooner....

Wide glide is cool. Anyone know why they have such an ugly exhaust system on the V-Rod? Just curious, but it's huge and ugly!!!
