Headlight question
 

I just changed my burnt out lightbulb a(Raybrig whitesonic) 55/60 12 v which is supposed to provide the brightness of 120/125. This bulb lasted me 14months but when I pulled it out today it had a bubble on the glass and it fried my headlight socket connector. The black wire area looks like it got too hot and melted part of the plastic. I usually ride with Hi-beam and only use the Lo-beam for riding at night. I was wondering if the Hi-beam is too hot for the system or not. I ride a 2000DynaWideGlide with 95"kit and HTCC heads &211 cam. Thank you for any input about this current problem. Leon

I am new to the bike world, but I do know that when you change the bulbs on the newer cars you should not touch the bulb with your bare hands, and if that can not be done you should clean it with alcohol after you install it. You might try dielectric grease on the connection, it works as a heat barrier. I know this does not answer your question, but maybe it will help.

Leon, Had the same problem when I went from the stock headlite on a '91 Ultra to a 80 watt low beam and 100 watt high beam bulb. The wiring in our bikes is as small as the MOCO can get away with. If we try putting more current flow thru those small wires, something's gotta give and it's usually the wiring.

However, is the inside of the socket clean and shiny so the new bulb could make solid connections? If the connectors on the inside of the socket are in question, replace the socket, too.

Our twins produce vibration that likes to eventually crack solder joints also. Your best bet would be using wire nuts with a little electrical tape to keep 'em in place.
