New to this forum
 

Hi all, I'm new here, and would like to introduce myself. I've been riding anything with 2 wheels and a motor for as long as I can remember. Been riding sportbikes mostly the last 5 years, but today I bought a 2003 FXDWG from a guy that bought it 8 months ago, and then found he liked his Suzuki better, go figure. I rode the glide most of the day to get a feel for her, and I must say she is a sweet machine. I plan on doing some long distance runs on her when I can. Any suggestions or advice from the members here on what things I should be aware of about these bikes on long trips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to the "Family"....that's one of Harley-Davidson's motto's. I've ridden every motorcycle I could get my hands on from a mini bike to an Electra Glide , and a Gold Wing.....and honestly loved every second of every ride I've taken.

But there's just something about a big V-twin Harley rumbling between your legs, there's nothing else quite like it. I still enjoy riding my brother in law's, 1800 VTX, and a co-workers Hyabusa....but at this point in my life it's a Harley for me. I hope you enjoy the DWG, it's a really cool bike, and a very comfortable ride with the forward contols, and the mini ape bars, those will help keep you comfortable on a long trip. Other that that, get you a set of throw over saddle bags, and a T-Bag, or a some other brand of bag for your sissy bar. I have a "TourMaster" bag and it will hold lot's of stuff...here's a link....

Also, before you hit the road service you bike before you leave.....get yourself a shop manual from you local H-D dealer, lot's of good info to help you keep that new Wide Glide running well.....good luck with her.

Welcome to bikerforums, glad you dropped on in and hope you stick around.

I just rode a 2003 wide glide yesterday and I'd have to say it was definitely a SWEET ride. This was my first time on a newer glide and it felt just right. Hope you enjoy the scoot and keep riding strong.

I really love the ride. I also have an 02 R1 that I haven't even sat on since I got the DWG. I initially bought it so that my wife and I could do some riding together since she likes to ride with me, but the saddle on the R1 is just not comfortable for any distance. It seems to be working out well. I've logged about 400 miles in the last 4 days, about 300 of them have been 2 up.

Heres another pic of her with the Corbin saddle still on her. Since my wife enjoys riding with me so much, I doubt that I'll be needing this saddle anymore. Anyone that wants to make me an offer on it, I'll concider selling it pretty cheap.
