New tank to seal or not to seal ?
 

I bought a new stretch bob tank for my bike and the manufacturer says to seal it , I talked to a man who does our radiator and gas tank repairs for our shop and he says bullshit on that it shouldn't need to be sealed that gas is the only thing that should be in the tank. Does anyone have any advise on this ? Later..........................

If the manufacturer is saying seal it, they must not trust their work too much....lol. I'm sure they've water tested it, but I'd do it again. Fill that bad boy up with water (and plug the right holes) and see what happens. If it holds, it holds.

Some people still like to seal just to make sure, so they know they won't have a small leak.

If it were my tank, I'd test it then seal it....just to make sure.

I'm sure its a liability issue with the manufacturer. With our society being the way it is, I'd tell everyone to seal it too.

It wouldn't be a bad idea because if there is any rust formed on the inside of the tank it will eventually get into your fuel system. Untreated metal, especially in a tank situation where it is closed off all the time, will have some moisture form as the temperatures rise and fall. That may lead to some corrosion forming.

POR 15 makes a nice tank seal kit that you can do at home for a minumal expense.

Yes I thought about the ups and downs and I'll pobably go ahead and seal it just for shits and grins, better safe then sorry. And yes por 15 has some bad ass products, I already checked into it, and some friends use it on some resto jobs on there old hot rods, so i"ll pick one of there tank sealer kits and get after it . Thanks for the input and advise, its good to have other peoples input if your not sure witch way to go.. Thank again..............
