Paint Question
 

Story:
There is a BMW with the light reacting color changing paint that parks out in front of the high school i attend. The color choices sucked (purp and blue) but the concept is pretty cool. So i got to thinking...

Question:
Can that kind of paint be applied to a...say...sportbike? I dont think ive ever seen this done. But then again theres really not very many sportbikes running around where i live. But is it possible? I figure this could be a way to make your cycle a little more personalized...that is until you cant find one without it.

Anything is possible. The color shifting paints (called chameleons) are made in a variety of colors, but beware, they can be extremely expense. Your choice of painters could effect the finish as well. Pick a good painter, and you should be happy.
Here's a pic of a Ducati I painted with a chameleon paint, the Ducati purists hate me for it, but the customer loves it. (thats all that counts) This particular color, purple and green are dominate, but you can also see gold, blue, and red at certain angles.

That ducati looks pretty cool, whats the average price for somthing like that? so i got something to shoot for. Thanks for your help.

The color alone on that one was $586. for one pint. Plus there was clear, primer, reducer, etc. That one also has the Ducati and 996 numbers painted on. It was $2500, he took off all the parts. There are less expensive chameleons out there, the least I have done one for is $1800. But some can reach into the many thousands when you start adding artwork or graphics. Mine are all show quality, fully polished.
If you go to your local paint supply store, they can show you samples of the various chameleon colors. Any good custom shop will have them as well. There are also different manufacturers that make different variations, check with a few. I recommend House of Kolor, PPG, and Dupont, all have nice chameleons. good luck,

Wow, ill probably get a cheaper job then. if it was a show bike id deffinatly go for the higher quality. But all i really want is peple to say "wtf was that 2 bikes?" as i pass by. I was looking at the dupont before work, but that still seems like too much. I might spring for if thou if i got the money at the time.

Also...do you know of a chameleon thatll go from black to any shade of red (minus pink that is)? Ive been looking and cant find it...black and reds kinda my thing.
