Speedo accuracy question

I know that the speedo's on all Jap bikes are off by between 3% to over 10% in some cases. Is this true for the American built bikes as well?

I didn't even know that, but the last time I got pulled over on the Suzuki, I was doing 140, and she couldn't clock me. :D :D

I assume it's accurate enough, cause I haven't gotten a ticket on the HD YET .

heh heh. Got pulled over last fall on my gixxer on the way home from the Tool concert doin' 102. First thing out of the cop's mouth; "102 ??!!! What are you thinkin man?!!" What I was thinkin but couldn't tell him was that two minutes earlier I was doin 135. phew.

Don't ya hate it when the throttle sticks like that? You should really look into some WD for that or something. :D ;)

OK, let's get back on track now. All this Suzuki talk in the Harley section is a terrible thing. :-)

Whoopsie! We better move on to the Suzuki forum.

I've checked mine with a GPS and it is always within 1-2 mph. That's just for an XL883R Sportster, don't know about the others.

my 89 FXR had the wrong reduction gear installed so it only registers half the miles accruing. So the bike had twice the miles on it when I bought it. Marv Smith of Apache Junction, AZ sold me the bike. Discovered this after taking the bike to Mexico. Never assume the mileage showing on a bike is correct, use other methods to determine wear and usage. The speedo works but is out about 5 MPH at 60 but where I live nobody gives a f*ck how fast you go. Just bribe the traffic cops 5 bucks and move on. Happy bug eatting!!! :D
