Storage ????

Being this is my real first bike worth caring for ,
Storage is coming soon.
Somewhere I read that change the oil before putting away , and then change agin when getting out from storage,
Can any one suggest/comment on this???

Tom.. Oil is one of the few substances that can corrode (sp?) the metal your oil pan is made out of (in the bike). Therefore you have really only two options that are safest. You can drain your bike before you store it (Drain every drop of oil you can get out of your bike) or you can make sure it has brand new "synthetic" oil in it, and make sure you start it and let it idle for a while atleast 2 times a month during the out season. Since you probably only plan on storing it for the winter, you'd probably want to go with the second option. Draining it how I said is usually only done when it's going to be put away for a long time. Also draining the bike can stick your pistons if you dont do it right.

And oh yea... definately do change it once it is out of storage.

Tom, I'm going to recommend you do the opposite of what AhadAhad says. There is no need to change the oil before storage. The motor will not produce any moisture as long as it maintains the same comstant temp. DO NOT start the bike in cold weather conditions as that is how you get the moisture. Simply get a Battery Tender for your battery and let the bike sit til spring. Then make your fluid changes, and enjoy!

Thanks for the replies,
as it stands, I'll go with the not changing th oil
til i take it out of storage,
as it is stored in room temps,
"I do heat my HOuse LOL."

so it won't see anything below 65
so I guessing I cna still star it up , just to enjoy the sound , and of courase the thoughts of re-riding soon,
I'll just sit on it and close my eyes and let my imaginatioon go HOG WILD
hee heee heeeeee

Just an FYI, starting the bike is actually harder on the battery then not, so I still recommend the Battery Tender.

yea, so noted,
but it wasn't for charging the battery
it was just for memories, futures, etc,

I do the same man, I know the feeling. Luckily I got the heated garage this winter, so I won't be stinking up the house.!! LOL!
