Towing caddy...
 

I have a 250 Yamaha Virago and would like to take it to the beach on our family vacation. It's about 150 miles and I really don't want to ride there...crusing speed is about 60mph plus it's a family vacation. So I am looking at options for trailering/towing. Thing is, I really don't have a place to store a trailer and for the cost of renting one, I can pretty much buy a small folding trailer that would do the trick.

But I'm considering a caddy system that holds the front wheel in a chock at the hitch and has the rear wheel running free (chain disengaged from rear sprocket). I haven't been able to find much discussion about whether or not this is an ok or bad thing for the bike.

The bike I'm towing is only 300 pounds so I don't think they'll be much stress on the headstock and with the chain disengaged I'm not spinning the unlubed crankcase...so is there anything wrong with a system like this?

And if anyone has one, is there really much difference between the $125 build-your-own plank ramp to get it in the chock...vs the $600 units that have a jack?
