Turn Signals
 

Anyone ever replace their turn signals on their bike. I'm getting ready to change the ones on the Phatboy, and was looking for some advice. Do I need to remove the tank? Rear fender? What am I getting myself into here? Is this a 2 beer project or a 12 beer project? I got some of the new smaller bullet style signals, like on the new Deuce's. I think I'll change the lenses to clear with amber bulbs. That looks neat. Anyhow, any advice is appreciated.

Did you say Beer?? I don't know how to replace your turn signals, or how long it will take....but if you're buying the beer...I'll be glad to help ya !!! :D

Long drive
 

That would be a long drive from Texas to Iowa just to replace some turn signals. It's pretty slick actually, the connectors for the rear signals are in behind the taillight. Make it pretty easy, the hardest part was re-doing the plug, they are pretty small. The fronts run to a plug underneath the gastank. Don't need to remove the tank, you can just unbolt it, and move it back a little, then un-do the plug. It's right up front on the frame. It's about a 4 beer job for future refrence. Going to patch it up tonight, and put everything back together. Thanks for the offer!

If you can, post some before and after pics....I'll be posting some after pics of my 'engine refinishing' project when I clean my bike up. Also, if you wouldn't mind go through the project and tell us how it went...downfalls...things you'd recommend....etc. (you get the idea). I think stuff like that would be helpful on this board.

Fatboy Installation Procedure
 

Here's what I did to replace the signals. For the fronts, you'll need to remove the dash panel on the tank, un-do all the wiring underneath, and un-bolt the tank, you don't need to un-do the fuel lines. Lift up on the tank, and move it back gently. Underneath the rubber boot that separates the tank from the frame, is the plug. It's close to the front on the right as you sit on the bike. Both front signals wire to that plug. Un-do the bolts that hold the signals and remove the old ones, but be careful as these bolts also hold your mirrors. The kit I had required cutting the wire to length, and putting new metal commectors on the ends, and inserting them into the existing plug. That was a pain, as I do not work well with small objects. Patch everything back up, and you are good to go.

For the rear, you need to remove the brake light. The connectors are on either side of that mounting bracket. There is a separate connector for each side. Remove the Chrome brackets from each side of the fender. This is hard if your Fatboy is lowered!!! That wrench is a tight fit between the tire and fender. The entire assembly will come off with the signal intact. There is a allen bolt that holds the signal to the chrome bracket on the inside. Take the old off, and put the new on. Re-install the chrome along the fender, and run the wire through the holes on either side of the brake light bracket. There are tabs on the underside of the fender that hold the wire, make sure you run the wire back through them and pinch them down so the wire doesn't rub on the tire. Cut the wires to length, and install the metal connectors. Wire to the plug, plug them in. Reinstall the brake light and you should have it there.

I hope this is a good enough description for everyone. I'll post pics as soon as I get a digital camera from someone!
