When to switch gas to reserve

Hello, I am new to riding. I just bought a Honda Rebel. I am kind of confused. I dont have a gas gauge so I dont know when to switch it to reserve. Right now I just wait til I start running out of gas then switch it to reserve. I just dont think that is very safe and I should probably switch it before but how do I know when? Does it hurt to drive with it on reserve if you have a full tank?
Thanks a lot,
Jon

switching to reserve

thats when u switch if u run on reserve when full it will just simply run out of gas on you watch your miles and get to know how far you can go till you hit reserve then just get gas before you do on mine i fill up at around 120 miles

I usually flip it over to reserve before I fill up. I try to use the reserve gas up as well.

Next time you fill up clear your tripometer if you have one on your speedometer. Ride as normal until you need to switch to reserve.....look at your tripometer and use that milage as your guide for your range between fill ups from then on.

Of course that range will differ with variables such as highway vs. freeway riding...ect. So keep that in mind as well....
