Things to do in KC, MO

Spent the last 2 days in KC, and didn't really feel like working, so I went around visiting various bike shops etc... Here's my trip in a nutshell.

Wed I went to Blue Springs Harley off I-70 just east of KC. Nice new store, pretty big, lot's of nice bikes with paint kits and such. Very nice folks there, and very willing to talk. Parts guy gave me some good ideas for my Fatboy.

That night we hit the plaza district. Fun place, and pretty as hell in the winter with all the lights and such. Ate at the Kona Grill. Food was awesome, lil Sushi, and some potstickers followed by a nice big pork chop grilled to perfection. ***** in my opinion.

Thu I took a tour of the assembly and powertrain plant in KC. It's off I-29 just southeast of the International Airport. They assemble the V-Rod motor there, as well as the V-Rod, Sportster, and Dyna models. It takes 92 minutes to assemble a V-Rod motor and 107 minutes to assemble a V-Rod. I couldn't believe the tour, it was really cool, and since we only had a group of 4, she took us places you wouldn't normally go. I HIGHLY recommend this tour.

From there, I went to KC Creations, which is a local Big Dog dealer, and we all know how I love Big Dog. Well, I was none to impressed with this shop. Small, no windows, and all the bikes were dirty or dusty, not to mention the fact that I walked around a store that's not much bigger than my garage, and no one said a word to me. I do not recommend wasting your time to visit them.

From there, I was on the way to pick up the wife, and I saw a Mini Cooper dealer. Wife has been talking about how she wants one of these cars, so I had to check it out. Within 5 minutes of stopping, I'm off in the car, alone I might add, ready to see what she'll do. Well, she'll do well. Next thing I know I'm doing 105 on I-35 weaving in and out of traffic. Loving this little car, 6 speed manual, nice big sunroof, sticks to the ground like glue. I hit the exit, come back over the interstate, and stop on the onramp. Rev that thing up to about 6k on the tach, dump the clutch and I'm off, no wheel hop, and little spin. We're movin right along, I nail second, tires bark but something isn't quite right. Something in my hand doesn't feel right. It's the ball from the shifter! In a panic, I hit a soft 3rd to 4th quick, and am now frantically trying to put this ball back on. With a "gentle" ;) tap to the top she snaps back on, and I head back to the dealer with the idea to quit while I am ahead. This is a fun car at a great price. $24k, supercharged and quality built. It's a sloid car.

From there, I picked up the wife, and told her of my escapades on the way home. KC is a fun town with a lot to do.

Funny thing is, I wouldn't mind it at all, but my lady is on a mission to get one now. I built one on the internet for her today. She's all about it man. If I get this new job I'm in the running for, I bet she orders one.

I'm heading there in a week or 3, had the same experience at KCC before. Where's that Mini dealer, I'd like to try that myself :)

Phat - Boy:sounds like you had a great time. I'm jealous sitting here at home with no travel plans at all. Guess I'l have to go for a ride while the weather holds and enjoy myself on the open road. Glad you had such a great trip and good luck on the Mini.

Thanks, it was fun. I try to have fun while traveling for work as much as I can. Figure if I'm out seeing the world, I might as well enjoy!!

If i ever get to K.C., I definatly would like to take a tour there of the assembly plant.
Are they building the new Sportster motor there?

I also went to the H.D. store this past weekend, I thought about buying some chrome, but since the Holidays are coming up, I think I will hold off till next year, I did however buy a new helmet. I needed one really bad my half-helmet has lived past its lifetime.
I'll keep it and maybe use it once in awile.
I decided to get a 3/4 helmet this time, since winter is coming up.
and I wanted something different.
I guess I'll have to get use to it, now.
Ride safe everyone!

So, Phat-Boy, you're saying the KC tour was interesting - not as dull as the plant tour in WI? Have to say, I expected more out of the Powertrain center in WI - but I think when we did it for the 100th they did really have the 'tours' running. They just kinda had the areas roped off and you wondered through the place. Most exciting part was watching all the people trying to eat chili dogs outside without slopping themselves up. Well.....that and some of the eye candy.

Sure are. I was so cool to see. And Mongo, this tour was a lot better. It was neat to see everything running and have a tour guide to talk to you about things. Learned a lot of interesting facts. I just need to hit the York PA plant, and my tour is complete.

I'm only an hour away brotha, when do you wanna go? York is nice - they've expanded the plant in recent years - really slick.

I hear it's about 1,000,000 sq ft. That would be awesome. We gotta hit it man. I need to get out there for a weekend.
