Getting my M Liscense soon
As some of you may know, I'm only 16 and recently inherited a 1983 Roadster. Just was looking around the Iowa DOT website and found out that I can get my motorcycle liscense at 16, I thought it was 18, so I just may be bringing her up here soon.
Hampster, I got my MC lisence when I was 15 (here in Texas). That was 30 yrs ago....lol....time flies when your having fun
.
Anyway, please take a MSF rider's course, it will be the best investment in your safety that you could ever do. Then find some experienced riders in your area...maybe hang around your local dealer, find some guys that have been riding for years, ask questions, get to know them. Tell them you situation (new rider), politely ask them if they would mind letting you tag along on some rides. If so, those guys can teach you more in a weekend of riding than you will learn by yourself in a year. Listen to their advice, ask questions, and watch how they ride, and above all ask them how, and what you can do to be a safer rider.
Here's why I ask you to do these things......I had my first, and only wreck when I was 16.....riding a Kawasaki KE100, on the way home from school I pulled out in front of a car at a 4 way stop intersection (my fault I should have yielded right of way). Minor wreck, busted the bike up some, broke my ankle, and a little "road rash"....and some damage to the cars front end.....inexperience was the cause...
take the course....and then ride safe !!!
good luck

Glad your planning on taking the course. I started out on a mini bike when I was 10, then went to dirt bikes after a couple of years. I competed locally and around southeast Texas in Motocross, from about 13 yrs to 17 yrs.....still love the dirt, although presently don't have a dirt bike. One thing to remember though, the dirt is much more forgiving than the asphalt......good luck with the course, and your scooter. Keep us posted Hampster.
