Starbucks can kiss my @$$
I recently received an email from a friend of mine and he told me about some Marines stationed in Iraq. He said that they had written to the Starbucks coffee chain and told them how much they liked their coffee and if they could send some to them in Iraq. The reply they got was that Starbucks appreceates that their coffee is so well liked by them but that they do not support the war or anyone in it so they were not going to send anything to Iraq.
As far as I'm concerned if you don't want to support the war that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But I still think that we should support our troops no matter what. It's not like they made the decision to go over there and be away from their families for a year. I am no longer going to buy any products made by the Starbucks chain. If they don't want to support our troops then I am not going to support Starbucks.
Thank you all for letting me say my peace here. I am not asking anyone to do what I am doing. I just thought some of you would like to know, what you do is up to you.

Man, I agree with you 100%. I'm a vet (U.S. Army '78-'81) and I'm getting tired of hearing about our troops getting killed in that hell-hole, and for what, I'm getting more and more unclear on. But, when anyone (individual or corporation) can't appreciate the sacrifices made by our soldiers, that just pisses me off to no end.
You can disagree with the scope and purpose of this war all you want. But anyone who has never worn the uniform, and has no knowledge of what they're going through to turn their backs on our military personnel is just a disgrace.
On a more positive note, let me relate this story: (This is how it shoukd be) In July I took the family to do the whole Disney thing. On one of the days we went to Sea World. I kept seeing these signs that read "Here's To The Heros" (It's even on Sea Worlds web site) Very nice, I thought. We then took the kids to see the Shamu show. Before the show began, they played the Anheuser Busch commercial, with the returning soldiers being applauded while walking through the airport. The whole croud errupted into applause. Then what happened next totally blew me away: One of the trainers asks anyone in the audience who has served in the armed forces of the U.S. or Great Brittan to please stand. She thanks all the vets for their service to their country, while they display their faces on the big screen. And again, the whole croud applauds. I had a lump in my throat, and was getting choked up. Anheuser-Busch obviously gets it.
The moral of this story? Well, for me, I say screw apathetic companies make their pollitical statements by disrespecting our soldiers. I'll spend my hard earned $$$ with companies that support our troops! As a matter of fact, on the way home, I'm buying a case of Bud!
As a footnote, I did a little research about Starbucks. Their website states that they donated 50,000 lbs of coffee to the American Red Cross, which distributes this to soldiers in Kuwait, Iraq, And Afghanistan. Sounds like they're doing the right thing to me.

Claim: Starbucks refused free product to G.I.s serving in Iraq, saying it didn't support the war and anyone in it.
Status: False.
Status: False.
I'm enlisted in the Air Force, and my girlfriend is an employee for Starbucks, and when I asked her about this type of confrontation, she replied that all of her fellow employees support our troops, but a corporation like Starbucks can't take a one-sided stand like that for a war. I agree, we should have more support, but the corporations today are more worried that if they were to take a stance against the war, or in support of it that they would lose customers. It's the freedom I defend that gives them that right. An oxymoron if you will, sadly.
