Default New rider - how to know fuel level?

I took the safety course, got my motorcycle license and just brought home my new vstar custom last night. My question is, how do I know how much fuel I have? There is no guage, and when I open the cap and look inside I can't see into the tank.

I used to just shake the bike to see and hear what was in the tank. Of course that was an enduro. You could carry a mini flashlight or ride the bike until you have to switch to reserves and note the milage.

yeah with no guage you will need to estimate the mpg you get and just stop when you get near .
I fill up around every 150 -160miles (I average 70-85mph on hwy)I have 5 gallon tank light comes on with 1 gallon left, and I have to switch to reserve with a half gallon left.
if you switch over to reserve ..remember to switch it back when you fill up!
sucks to hear that sputter sound and find you ARE on reseve ,then you are pushing!
