Starting Out
Hi, everyone.
I live in San Jose, where the bright sun always shines down on us.
I have long wanted to learn to use two types of vehicle:
- motorcycles
- airplanes
In the interest of starting out with motorcycles, I will soon enroll in a CA MSP approved course to learn about what kind of bikes there are, and how to ride them.
In the mean time, though, I will need to research all the bewildering array of bikes available. All of them seem different, down to the individually manufactured parts.
I have made a few decisions about the kind of bike I want. To start out, I would like a used bike with OK resale value, low engine displacement, smooth ride, easy handling, and, for fun, satisfying torque.
I was considering a Honda NightHawk, but it looks like it vibrates too much. This would be fine with my short commute, but I want to take the bike down to Santa Cruz once a month, eventually.
Do any of you have any suggestions? If anyone would like to take a shot at this, let me know and I will post my preliminary general specification.

Sportbike or Cruiser?
HD Sportster has an 883 model that's good for beginners, but is looked at as a "Chick Bike". Yamaha has a 900cc model of the Shadow that handles nice, but it's metric.
If you're into Sport Bikes, go with Buell on the American side, or if you don't mind metrics, stick with Yamaha.
That's just my 2 cents.
Good Luck
