Default 85 XVZ12 Venture

I have a 85 Yamaha Venture XVZ12 which I have had for 3 years. This year after taking it out for a ride (about 20 miles) once it gets hot it seems to fall on its face and only runs on 2 cyl instead of 4 and I lose my tach and temp gauge stops working. Once the bike cools for about 15 minutes it will run great again but then I'm only able to drive about 4 or 5 miles before it does it again. Thanks for any help in advance

Has the bike sat for any amount of time?

It has only sat in storage for the winter from about Oct. to April. The year before was the same time frame and it still ran great, but I know that doesn't always mean a thing

Are any of the fluid levels off (oil)? Sounds like it's not cooling right and shutting down.

I don’t know about that bike but it sounds like a relay is kicking out and then after a few minutes it kicks back in and the bike runs good until it gets hot and kicks back out. Get a manual and see if there are relays in the ignition circuit. It maybe that mice have gotten into the wires and something is grounded. Let us know what the fix is. Take Care and Ride Safe.
