Default Katana riders??

Hey, I just bought my first bike. It's a 97 Katana 600. I bought it to play around with. I'd like to change out the pipes, but I can't find any duel pipes to replace my oem's. I want aftermarket pipes that sound good. My bike sounds a little weak. I need to know where to find some. I can only find singles, but my bike has duels.

The bike came with dual pipes from the factory. When you add an aftermarket pipe, there will only be one. That's what you want. Trust me, it will look and sound a lot better.

Default So your saying 2 is not better than 1??

Thanks for the reply! That's what I figured. I want to go to one pipe, I'm looking at the Vance and Hines SS2-R. Their the only ones I can find that fit my bike. I saw a pic of them and it shows 2 pipes coming from under the seat. The bike in the pic doesn't even look like a Katana. I'm confused. Any ideas??

I'm sure either Vance and Hines or Yoshimura make a pipe for that bike. Maybe Micron? Now you do know the nickname for the SS2R is Sounds Shity too Restrictive right? There are better pipes than that out there for you. SS2R's are neat looking pipes but I hated the one I had on my GSXR. Shop around.

Basically you have a header that will come off the block then condense the 4 pipes into one, then it will run up the side of the bike and most likey mount to the passenger footpeg mount.

Underseat pipes sounds like a bit of overkill for a Katana, no? Is it a 600 or 750 Katana? I would think there'd be plenty of 4 into 1 full systems for a Katana by many manufacturers. Go to the Two Brother's Racing website and see if they have one. Nice throaty rumble sound, you'll like it. If not that, then search for Micron, D+D, V&H (like Phat Boy said). Look around. Maybe search Ebay?

Default Thanks

Thanks woo hoo, 2 bros don't make any for my year. This is the frustration. The ones I saw were for 98 and up. Has anybody seen the Jardine pipes?? They make pipes for my bike. Yoshimura don't make any for my year bike. Has anybody shopped from Starcycle?? What about Remus??? You said Micron is good?? V&H are all the rage up here, so they don't sound good?? I gotta buddy that loves them, of course I didn't like the way his sounded on his GSXR. Well I've been looking up stuff in betwwen writing this and I found a few more options. Thank you so much. Appreciate the help.

i like V&H, good quality, good sound in my opinion. Jardine, that's kind of a high-end (expensive) pipe, right?

I wasn't meaning to bash on all of V&H, just the SS2R. Not a good pipe for performance.

Default No problem!!

Yeah, the SS2R are the only ones V&H make for my bike, and I thought for a little while they wee my only option. I wasn't offended, I value others opinions. I'm glad you told me. I think I'm gonna go with the D&D with the high heat black headers and the polished aluminum can. They are $500 for the system, not too bad. Shippings gonna kill me. I'm in Alaska.
I'm painting my bike jet black with black chrome flames and a black chrome katana symbol. That is if I can find someone who does the black chrome vynils. The black headers will look good, and hopefully they sound better than they look. My helmet is black chrome, and I get more complements on my helmet than anything. Jardine is a higher end, that's why I was wondering about them. I think I'm going cheaper for my first bike. My dream bike is a Hayabusa, but I'm not too sure I want to go there until I get some more riding experience. Thanks guys

sounds like a great combo... the exhaust you chose and the paint and everything. D+Ds are wicked. I love the way they sound. Usually the louder of the pipes out there. Loud is good.

D&D makes a solid pipe, good sound and performance. I've had 2 of them. Sounds like a nice bike, post some pics on your progress for all to see!
