Default clarification

Someone asked me about being a special ed teacher that had seen in profile.
I am lisenced in the state of SC as a special ed teacher, but thats not what i do anymore. i do keep up my lisence in case i want to fall back on it.
I work at a center for the mentally handicap.
I am director/coordinator over the respite care programs.
We currently have 4 different programs.
which we call respite1, respite2, 3 and 4.
These programs are for the child/adult's care.
I decide which program is best suited for each child/adult and place them in the proper care.
program4 is my favorite, and always rewarding for me.
older adults with mental retardation, or downsyndrome that have been in our care over the years, that have grown and overcome some difficulties and ready to face the world as a regular adult without disabilities.
We have 15 rented government homes throughout the counties. A case worker is assigned to each home, and i place 3 to 4 children/adults in that home. They have supervision, in the home. The adults who are placed in these homes, live away from the center, must be able to hold a job of 20+ hours. the center provides vans to take them to and from jobs. The case worker assigned to each home takes them shopping or places needed to go. I find them jobs. a bag boy at the grocery store, shelf stocker, cleaning floors, whatever they can do. The last child i placed in home and work at winn dixie..had been with the center for 26 years. imagine, leaving the center, leaving the care of his parents to live on his own and hold a job.
i visit them on thier jobs, and they always have the biggest smile, because they are so proud of thierselves.
respite program1 is for the more difficult more mentally handicapped. always requiring adult supervision, can never be left alone.
I decide what classrooms, what workshops and which care the children/adults should be in.
ive been doing this a few years, and really enjoy it, i doubt i will ever go back to teaching.
i am able to be at home when my family needs me, by forwarding some my work home, or be at the center as needed.
so if anyone else was wondering how can i teach and be on computer as much as i am.......that is why. haha
i no longer teach. some might think teaching was more rewarding or easier...actually it wasnt..it was far more demanding, and very stressful for me. 1 year my youngest daughter stayed sick all the time with her asthma and was always in the hospital, i felt i wasnt home enough for her, and as a mom, it kinda made me feel like ****, that while i was at the center teaching, while my mother or husband was with her in hospital..how she was feeling, what was going on. That year, she ended up in the hospital 5 times in that one year. i would spend the nights in the hospital leave when my mom or husband got there, go home shower, go to work, and also try and be around for my other daughter. i couldnt handle the stress anymore. Now shes fine, and she does real good with her asthma, however ive been home allweeek due to she has pnuemonia. but in the last 2 years she hasnt had a hospital stay. :-)
guess i'll go change my profile.
sorry,
kelly
