Stupid advice for a stupid question:

From a stop, give it all the throttle, and pop the clutch. You'll probably end up on your ****, which will cure you of the Wheelie-itis disease that seems to affect so many young folks today.

I learned wheelies on dirt bikes, and was always able to do them with ease on street bikes. They are fun until you dump one and break your ***.....that taught me real quick....but they're still cool.

You shouldn't do wheelies, but if you want to, try to shift the weight forward by pushing down on the front end, or braking, and then open the throttle, which will quickly shift all the weight to the rear, making it a lot easier to do wheelies. That said, don't do wheelies, it's dangerous and stupid :/

I agree, doing wheelies looks cool. I also used to ride in the dirt, and when you screwed up a wheelie (which you will do when learning), chances are you didn't get hurt too badly. If you're hell bent on doing them on your street bike, I would do the following:
1) make sure your health insurance is up to date
2) make sure your motorcycle insurance is up to date
3) make sure you have a buddy with you with a cell phone so he can call 911
4) find a BIG empty parking lot to practice in
5) wear LOTS of protective gear

Good luck!!!!

you'll see people on underpowered (overweight?) bikes bouncing on the handlebars 1, 2 or 3 times before wacking the throttle as the front end is rebounding upward off the springs. this seems to help. good luck in learning. i predict pain and repair bills in your future though.

Hey i appricate the helpful tips ive been giving alot of thinking to wheelies and seen many go horribly wrong with that in mind i realise that those who manage to keep their bike and themselves intact dont take unnessary chances. I would like to learn one day but for now i'll play it safe and live. Thank again for the help.

ahhh, wise choice. i will say this, if you get a newer sportbike, little power wheelies (front wheel 3" off the pavement) become a regular occurence. I'm the biggest wheelie ***** there is and still, sometimes, when i'm hard on my sixxer the wheel comes up, sometimes in two gears. that's fun enough for me. i don't feel the need to go vertical. it's more fun and safer watching my friends do it. cheers

Good idea on waiting. Save some cash and pick up an old beater dirt bike and fart around off road, if you can. Wheelie and trick off road, drag the pegs on road.
