Default Hello From Detroit

Hello All

The names Don, and I have been riding for 20yrs on one thing or another, but just got my first Harley (69 Ironhead Chopper /w girder forks) it's a restoration project that I just started and I'm having a great time so fare.

so far the bike is stripped down, the motor didn't look right on the bench so I frabricated a engine stand for it. Should be reassembling the motor in the next week or so. i'll keep everyone up to date if interested and should have pics in a couple days.

Sounds good. I'm building a similar bike myself. It's a '58 sporty custom hardtail conversion with a twisted springer. I'm putting a 1980 Ironhead in it. Here's a pic of the rolling chassis as it was the day I brought it home. The bike was customized 25 years ago and never put on the road. I have the engine installed but no pics yet. I'm in the middle of moving so it's on the back burner for now.

I picked this bike up for $400 and when I took the motor down only the rings need to be replaced, well they don't need to be but hey i'm there right? couple things I'm planning.

Pri.. cover

Cams
Rings maybe pistons
motor parts rechromed or replaced
frame powder coated
new Tires and wheels. (have some laying round?)

huh, that's too bad you've had a bad experience with Ebay. My experiences have been great. I've scored lots of cool old-school stuff for my rat chopper. In fact I'm practically building the whole thing from Ebay. I don't have time to hit the swap meets.

Default That's one thing....

...about here in Michigan(land of ice and snow)you DO get time to improve/modify your scooter. I am tweakin' and jewelin' on a newer one myself and that isn't the same caliber of fun as riding but it is at least still at the range. We are getting pummeled here this year with one of those winters that just doesn't stop or let up. Not a lot of snow in inches but, damn if it doesn't do it a couple inches EVERY day!

Good luck on your scoot project. Make sure you get on it ALL THREE of the weeks in between snow fall and rain!! WELCOME!! (I'm in G.R.)

Welcome Don from Detroit. I'm Michael from across the river in Windsor. I'm sure you'll enjoy this site. I've found it very informative. Good luck on your bike.
