I'm looking at purchasing my first bike. I've been looking at 600cc sport bike and came across a excellent deal on a yamaha R1, one a can not pass up. I'm 24 and have a career right now and am looking to get a bike to ride with groups and for personal enjoyment. So my question is with no bike experience under my belt but i am going to be very mature about this bike and understand the power of it. If i respect the bike and it's power and i will not be stunting or racing will i kill myself on a powerful bike such as this 1000cc?

The 1000cc is a tad large for a new rider but if its a deal you can't pass up go for it, listen to your instructors, and ride safe. As far as killing yourself on a bike a 50cc or less is just as capable of getting someone into more trouble than they would wish for as a larger displacement.
