Default Robert from NYC

Hi everybody,
I live in New York city and I just bought a 150 cc scooter to zip around the city and avoid traffic as much as possible. For the moment I only have the permit and I need to take a skill test for my licence.
I`m an expert driver and even if this is my first "2 wheels" in USA I had many bikes in Europe in the past 10 years including a Ducati Monster 900cc and a beautifull Honda 600 XR and a bunch of scooters.
Do you guys think I need to go through a driving school for the test or should I just register for the test and give it a try. Somebody told me that there are "specific things" that the examiner wants to see and considering that everybody pics up some bad habits driving, I don`t want to fail just because I hold my front brake lever with two fingers....or something similar!

Any tips or opinions....what do they want to see at the driving test and what they want you to do?
I wouldn`t mind to save the money for the school!!!

Thanks for your help,

Robert
