Whats going everyone. New user here.
Hi everyone. I am a bike newb. I came to this site to try to get some information. I want to get a bike in the Spring. I have alwayse wanted one, I raced bmx when I was younger and now that I have a little cash I think im going to finally get a real bike. I have never ridden one though, not even a dirt bike so I am very new to the whole scene.
Can anyone help me out and give me some information about what im looking forward too. Any bike recomendations for someone that has never ridden one? I want a street bike but have no idea what are good models or anything like that. I would like to pay around 2500 for the bike. What other stuff do you need?
I live in New York. I have heard about classes for people like me. At airports they let you ride a bike around and give you a test. If you pass you get a license. Good idea?

Welcome! If you haven't ridden much I would suggest taking a MSF (Motorcycle Saftey Foundation) course. I live in CT and the Basic Rider's Course is the one that leads toward getting a motorcycle endorsement. Check with your local Motor Vehicle Dept to see what's offered. In CT the courses are offered at community colleges.
As for bikes... my thought is a first bike should be small and easy to maneuver until you're comfy with the ride. I would recommend somewhere in the 550 - 750 cc range. You can get a lot of mileage (forgivethe pun) out of a good used bike and that may fall into your price range.

yes take the safety course!
I have been riding over 26 years and went down hard in april
you will learn a lot of things in course about defensive riding.
most brands make a bike in the 750-850cc range thet are not to heavy
and have enough power to keep up on hwy with bigger bikes you may ride with.
check around and see which ones feel right to you.
I usually pay the extra$ for a windshield, first off those bugs hurt when they hit you.

I highly reccomend a riding course i rode for 5 monthes on a permit and when I took the course to get my lisence I learned sooo much more about how to manuver my machine. I am buying a new bike in the spring I have a 1993 fzr600 with 21500 miles on it I am looking to get $2000 or best for it. I got the bike with 18000 on it, Put new mirrors on it, A new clutch cable, New plugs and am getting the carbs cleaned in the next 2 months. Bike has never let me down, power enough to do a buck, fast off the line. Awsome first bike, easy to ride the stretch from seat to handle bars is comfortable.
