Cool 04 sporty update

Hey phat-boy, john here in san antonio with an update on my sporty. Well i'm back at the HD dealer with my sporty. I took it in on may 13, and didn't get it back till the 21. They didn't do anything to the bike not even run a diagnostic on it (it does have a computer) to check for trouble codes. They said it would not run right until i jetted the carb and put a high flow air cleaner/filter on it. when i took it in it was jetted 170 main and 42 slow. I took it home and tried going from a 170 main jet with a 42 slow jet to a 170main and 45 slow, no change, next i put in a 180 main with a 45 slow no change. Last i tried a 190 main with a 48 slow still no change. I still say a carb doesn't run great for 6-7 months and then next day take a dump, its gotta be the control module or the crank sensor, electronics are the only thing i've seen take a **** so fast. So this morning I went back to HD and asked if they are voiding my warranty, no firm answer they say they are going to contact HD to find out, ron (a mechanic) at HD took alook at my sporty and it was backfiring on the slightest throttle twist said he spotted a trouble code on the engine diagnostic light, so i'm in limbo man till i here something in the meantime i'm going to contact a district rep a get him involved in this cuz its looking like this will be the last harley i ever buy. i put a gibson exhaust and a k-n FIPK(cold air induction) on my then new 02 nissan
and took it in for warranty work at the dealer didn't get any static from them about that. well i'll keep ya posted have a good summer. john

I would find it hard to believe the dealer wouldn't warranty it. Around here I would have no problems at all. I guess dealers differ. Either way, best of luck. Don't let one bad experience turn you off to Harley as a whole. Try a different dealer if you don't have luck. Call HD Corp yourself and talk to them. Don't let this dealer dictate the end result.

Best of luck!

Dirt inside a carb will make it run like crap all of a sudden......

Car dealers try to strong arm people all the time when it comes to voiding warranty's. There used to be an excellent article on Gale Bank's website about the law regarding dealers and aftermarket parts. Not sure if it's still there, but it wouldn't hurt to go on over and check it out. Basically, the only part that is voided when it comes to the factory warranty is the non-factory part. Other than that, they should still cover it.

Only exception with a bike would be burning a piston from the bike going lean as a result of an exhaust/induction mod without the proper jetting/EFI adjustment.

Thanks BeeLo, I took the carb completely apart and sprayed every passage I could find with carb cleaner followed by comressed air, I even drained the gas tank removed it and cleaned it out, thought maybe some crud had clogged the filter that sits atop the fuel petcock, the tank and filter were clean. I called HD corp. yesterday afternoon and I spoke with a woman named Yolanda, she said that by removing the baffles from the factory exhaust I made my sporty illegal for street use, and therefore unless I re-install the factory mufflers my warranty is void. Now if I install screamin eagle performance mufflers then I will have my warranty, since they are 49 state certified. I guess if you put vance&hines or samson pipes on your scoot HD would void your warranty also if they do not have an E.O. number cert. What a lesson.....Now I can LOL...LOL. I was pissed yeterday. So for now I'm waiting to hear from the HD shop about what the problem is with my scoot.

The one thing I do hate about Harley is their attitudes. Everything with their name on it is overpriced (from apparel to parts) and when you don't use their stuff, because of its outrageous price, they try to nail you with these "if it's not ours, it's junk" lines.

They build some nice stuff, but they don't **** gold......
