Exclamation Pontiac Grand Am Help!!!!

Anyone in here work on Pontiac's? I have a 98 Grand Am GT that is blowing the ERLS fuse. Once this fuse goes, you can't shift from park, therefore you can't get the car in gear. Had to dismantle the console and bypass the brake switch to get it home. Anyone have any experience with this????

check the a/c compressor clutch diode--i have seen multiple grand ams from 96-98 with same concern. the water pump leaks onto the a/c clutch and corrodes the diode, then when the compressor engages a high voltage spike occurs and blows the fuse--common on this model. If your water pump is or was leaking then this could be the cause...When does the fuse blow? Are you turning the a/c on or shifting, etc... when it blows?

It just seemed to go with no notice. I worked on it today, checked the AC, turned it on and off, works fine now. I don't notice any leaks from the water pump, or anything else for that matter. We'll see if it happens again, seems to be ok now. We hooked up the GM diagnostic tool and took it around the block, received no codes. I guess I'll wait for it to happen again. Thanks for the advice!!

I'll never get rid of the burb, unless it's for another. It's my nieces car, and it's getting traded on Wednesday!
