95"now pinging
I recently had 95" kit, HTTC heads, and 211 cam installed and am experiencing pinging when I leave my valley home and cruise into the foothills near me. What does advancing and retarding the timing do with performance etc. And when to do what. I'll have the screaming eagle map ignition system in when I do the dyna run in about 500 miles or more depending on when winter happens this time around. Thank you for any help you can give me Leon

no expert here, but a mechanic for many years, ( auto's only)
pinging will burn holes in pistons
pinging causes extra heat
pinging is usually caused by too much advance in the timing
or too low of octance in fuel
so have that timing checked and set just under the pinging, which should give you max performance
also pinging can be caused by using the wrong gear , like lugging the engine.
I know nothing about map ignitions,
I'm sure some one else can offer more info .

Hi Leon
I have almost the same motor. 2000 model TC88, 95 inch, SE 10 to one pistons, 211 cam and ported/polished stock TC88 heads but one other thing I had done was electronic SE 6200 rpm ignition. Had read that this helps keep pining down. This works so well, I can run low octain if I keep out of the throttle and let the bike ease up to speed. I had to do this on my way to Alaska last year because of the mom and pop gas pumps only having 2 kinds of fuel Diesel or Low Octain gas. Hope this Helps.
I live in Vacaville and send me a privite message if you want any info on the conversion I did. I would love to share my beer with someone living close.
