Default Chip in Paint

I have a rather large chip on my Gas Tank, about the size of a dime. It happened when the 4 foot light cover fell from the light when I was adjusting the Idle speed and I think the vibrations knocked it loose. Now I have a large chip in paint. Rats! Other than repainting, does anyone have any suggestions?

Angry Bummer

I can't help. There, that's to the point, huh? A dime size chip is probably a 600 hundred dollar trip to the paint shop. I have another similar problem but my chips are a lot smaller. The day after I picked up my FXDWG in January I noticed three tiny little chips in the paint right on the rearmost edge of the bob. That was a bumber. I didn't see it in my pre-delivery inspection. Anybody know if there is touch-up paint for Harley's?

I would suggets you remove the tank, yourself, and take it to a body shop. They will do as good a job as anyone and most likely will be less too.

I just can't imagin a 39.95 paint job on my Ride, but you might be right. Just around the corner is a custom bike shop and a fantistic painter. I might pull fenders and tank and see what we come up with. I saw a Fat boy that was all chrome once, even fenders and tank. Can you imagine what the sun would do to your eyes while riding?

I did not mean a $40 job. I too have a custom shop within walking distance. Bikes are worse than boats when it comes to getting work done. Any halfway competent body shop will do a GREAT job. I am sure for a reasonable price, too.

George

I thought that was what you were talking about. I guess I figure the worst when thinking of repainting my favorite ride. I get a little touchy when it comes to having something done to it my ride and I can't do my self the way I want it. I can handle a Devilblis fairlly well (I do have one) but not get the job done like I think it should be. Anyway you have given me the idea of a way to fix it and not have it cost me as much as the Stage IV conversion I just did. I still can't figure how the cover fell off the light fixture and then have the thing fall down between the handle bars and hit the tank end first, damn the thing is 4 feet long for gods sake.

Thanks for your advise George I realy do appreicate it. Wished I could slide you a Bud or what ever is your favorite suds. I travel a lot, are you going to Sturgis or Arizona Bike week this year and I buy you a tall cool one or two.

Thanks

Rapido,
Glad to drop a constuctive idea on ya. Many auto body shops can do a better job than the stock paint for you. Save the custom guys for custom work and cu$tom money.
I had planned on Sturgis, but my daughter is due just around that time. It would be hell to pay if I didn't get to Cali for that. she would understand, my wife would not!!!
I am on the East coast, New York, Long Island. arizona is out. Americade, maybe Laconia, is (are) in. Glad to buy ya one anywhere, hope it comes to pass.
