Lot of my buddies use S100 cleaner to clean engines. Works great, but word of caution, don't spray it on hot motor or let it dry before you rinse it off.

I've found that the car wash pressure sprayer works great.

Smile Cleaning Black Engine Parts

I use a product called "Pig Spit." I get it from my Harley dealer but I have seen it for sale on the net. It's expensive ($13.00 - $15.00 per can) but I haven't found anything better. Spray it on after you wash your bike and your done (no kidding!). It really makes the black wrinkle look new again and it lasts for a long time. It also works fine for every other surface on your bike except of course the tires (might make that first corner interesting).

Murphy's Oil Soap spray cleaner works as good as S100 & leaves no residue at all.
