Nobody really discussed this, but I think it's very sad. What really sucks is that they rolled out the proto's for 2004, had just gotten all the parts in to start building them....and then got the rug pulled from under their feet.

I really feel bad for the dealers that are strictly Indian dealers, they were just starting to build momentum and had some really good deals going and now this. Hell, the got notified when the public did.

Well, Indians will still be around....and who knows the name may re-surface again as it did not too many years back. Just sucks when something like this happens to a good moto company.

Thumbs down

That does suck. Don't like to see workers get laid off, we've had enough of that lately. Indian makes/made a fine motorcycle, and I hate to see something with so much history come to an end again. Hopefully they'll be able to drum up some investors again soon.

my local dealer has told me that there will be a buy out or buy in on 10/17/03.
I don't know how true it is, I just hope so.

Default indian buyout

Just read that Indian was bought by Italian entrepreneur who plans to re-launch the bike line and sell to people at the high end market, doctors, lawyers, etc. He has saved other companies from dismiss. I wish them good like, it is a good looking bike.

Last I head, J&P Cycles here in IA bought out Indian, all the parts and etc.. they had left over. He sent a couple semi's out there to pick everything up, and is going to market the parts and accessories pretty heavily. Anyone else hear this?

Not only heard it, check out the newest J&P catalog. They have tons of Indian stuff for sale. I think they bought all remaining stock that the company had, and the rest was auctioned off to public including the facilities and equipment. The investor may have bought the right to operate under that name or the remainder of what was left. Won't this be the fourth attempt to launch Indian?

I read about it in the august issue of Texas Full Throttle mag, page 19 They have a web site www.readfullthrottle.com. Have not been there yet but I would think the article would be there.
