Default Let's talk oil....

Can't remember if I posted a message about this before or not...I have slept a few times since I became a member of "BikerForums", and for sure I have partaken in a few chilled beverages....actually lot's of Shiner Boch beer (Texas local brand). So, if I have spoken of this topic before please refrain from calling me a dipshit , or accusing me of having a terminal case of "cranial rectal inversion", and I haven't smoked any hand rolled cigarettes since the 70's. Anyway, I have been running Amsoil synthetic motor oils in my scooter since my first oil change. I have been using synthetic oils for a few years, and knew that as soon as I had a few miles on the FatBoy I would make the switch.
Before I switched I had kept note of engine performance such as motor noise , gas milage, shifting smoothness & noise , as well as oil temp (dipstick temp gauge). After swithching to the Amsoil I noticed right off the engine ran quiter, I eased on down the street through my neighborhood and noticed as I shifted the tranny seemed to shift easier , and the clunks from shifting not quite as noticible. I checked the next 3 or 4 tankfuls of gas , and I had gained about 1.2 - 1.5 miles per gallon. As for oil temp , while crusing down the freeway 70 mph I had been running about 250 degrees with the fossil oil , and now with the synthetics I have never seen a temp over 220.....even at 85-90 mph. Now thousands of miles later I am still seeing all the quiter, smoother, cooler things I did the first day.
I'm using 20-50w in the engine , 10-40w in the primary, and 75-90w in the tranny. I'm a believer in synthetics , if you will try them you will become one too....and NO I'm not trying to peddle Amsoil , all the synthetics are comparible and great products. A friend is an amsoil dealer and sells it to me at his cost (I'd be an idiot to buy anything else). But I encourage you to try any synthetic brand...Redline , Mobile One, Royal Purple , Amsoil, whatever.....it really does make a difference...

I want to post a longer reply, but don't have time....so I'll just address the beer. Seems like long ago, this Pennsylvania boy was sent to spend a year in good 'ole Houston, TEXASS. Transplanted from my dutch country brew of Yuengling Lager (PA brew of choice...slowing gaining national attention) I yearned for something with comparable taste. On the recommendation of a cowboy that I played rugby with, I tried Shiner...and fell in love. There's one distributor in Philly that has it, and you're damn tootin' if I don't enjoy that brew at least a few time a year.

All that writing just for a beer....odd....but just thought I'd share.

Default In Retrospect to Beer and Oil........

JeezussHHHHHKriisttttt.......... My .02...... As long as you, the consumer believe that you are using the proper lubricant, than stick with it.... Myself, I am a Redline user, through and through... Mini-Van, Truck, Garbage Barge, Lawn Mower and the occassional need to get other things lubed up so that they fit correctly..... You know, Drift pins, cables, Forks, etc.... What did you think I mean???? LOL

Anywho, do yourself a favor, just ask yourself "How much is my moyorcycle worth to me???", If you are like most people, it is worth a lot.... Too bad that they aren't willing to pay for the longevity of it. Scrimping pennies to get a "Substandard Lube" is not doing your sled anygood.. Do the research, Syns are better in the long haul (Better Quality), as well as Cost effecient in the regards for "More Bang for your buck"...

As for the Beer, the best kind is any flavor, free, and has NOTHING TO DO WITH FRUIT.... That is just plain wrong, Beer & Fruit?????

Every board you log on to, there is a post on oil. You can only talk so much about oil. The only thing anybody has to worry about is changing oil and filter on a regular basis! I ride a '94 Ultra in which I run HD 20/50 and a Rev tech magnetic filter. In my Wifes '96 Bagger, I run Mobil 1 V-Twin with a Rev Tech magnetic filter. Both bikes are changed about every 2500 miles. I have seen no difference in the way either bike runs or whether the gas mileage is worth using synthetic or not or any excessive engine wear. I've had the top end off for base gaskets. When next years riding season starts, I'm running HD oil in both bikes. Sure will save me a lot of money in oil changes. You all can talk until your blue in the face about synthetics, but nobody can prove to me the synthetics are worth spending the extra money for. So Change oil and filter regularly and ride the bike.
